Hello all,
I've been tinkering with the idea of a ladder/ranking system for
badminton in
our area. There are various variations on this theme, e.g. the Swiss
Ladder system
http://www.worldbadminton.com/text/swissLadder.htm
In addition to that, we could also use an ELO based (like the Chess people
do) ranking system, that keeps a running ranking score of your games
and can even be used in doubles. Check out
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system#Theory
and
http://www.chessrankings.com/theory.aspx
With this email i'd like to solicit ideas.
I am planning to try this out at the small tournament I'm organizing
in the Glenn Dale Rec Center gym this coming Saturday (May 9).
Between about 10.30am and 4pm we are hosting a small tournament. You are
welcome to contact me if you are really interested to play,
but i should add these caveats:
- we only have 3 courts and I have to limit the entries (i..e there
might be a waiting list)
- the level is very recreational, though we plan to play in A and B
(A=C/D dcopen level at best; B=recreational/kids/no tourney experience
and if enough kids we might do seperate J (junior) level)
- fee is between $5 and $10 for the day
- prizes are fun prizes, no medals or trophies.
- we play with Yonex-2000 plastic shuttles, but for the finals we might
use AS-50 feather. The finals are between the top 4 players in the ladder
by the end of the tournament
- if you're really interested in helping with this ladder system, we
might be
able to bypass that waiting list :-)
