Subject: Stevenage Town Centre - Access For Cyclists

Hi everyone,

Earlier this year the developers for the Town Centre put on an exhibition in advance of submitting a planning application.

I know that several local cyclists went along and once they got past the initial warm words were disappointed to find that not only did the plans not only not improve cycle access to key locations, nor reinstate the new town - old town link but actually made things worse but obliterating some of the poor links that currently exist.

Now that the planning application is in there is to be a new exhibition this week.  Once again it will be in the former Edward the Confessor pub near the bus station (between the bus station and Westgate).   It will be open daily from 10a.m. to 4p.m. from Tuesday 4 until Saturday 8 December.  On Thursday evening there will be an extension until 8p.m.

If you possibly can please go along and see if there have been any improvements since the original plans.  It really would help if you could make comments / put in submissions making the case for a better deal for cycling in the town centre.  The proposals so far have been very car centred - more car parks, cars allowed closer to the main areas than cyclists, etc.

If you wish there is no reason why you cannot support improvements to the town and support improvements for our environmentally friendly and healthy form of transport.

Some information is available of www.stevenageregeneration.org

Please pass the information on to others who may be interested.

Regards,

JIM
