If you were sure about the weather, you'd be the only one in Chico.
Getting tired of having to check with my house painter about whether we're going to be able to get anything done the next day.
I know I'll regret saying this in two weeks when it's 90+, but I'm ready for some warmer weather.

Get Ready, Get Set, Go!

Time to start begging, borrowing, stealing...or renting a mountain bike.
Take the day off...the weather is going to be awesome, the company will be fun, and the laughter...outta sight!

We are heading out on an adventure....Well, an adventure for a beginner mountain biker like myself..

Friday, June 10
9AM Saddle Dam Day Use area in Oroville
Meet at 8AM at One-Mile if you want to carpool and/or caravan to Oroville
Carole Montgomery and Sandra Barton will help lead us on this ride
It's all new to me, but they said I could do it..
Hope you will come laugh and have fun with us..
Bring snacks and we will have tacos after

Here are directions to Saddle Dam Day Use area plus see link for a map:

From Oroville, take Olive Hwy 162 East. Turn left on Kelly Ridge road (at this intersection, it is Miner's Ranch to the Right and Kelly Ridge to the left). Saddle Dam Day use area is on the right roughly a half mile or so and is easy to zip past it so watch carefully. It is large gravel parking area with one out house.

It takes about 45 minutes from Chico to get there.
Hope to see you!

Fun 50 at 5:30 (Wednesday)

Meeting at: Rosedale

Pace: 18 - 21 (no drops).

*Please help to respect the posted pace. Newcomers/"Old"comers will greatly appreciate it! At anytime, if you choose to jam ahead, make it known so we don't try to hang on for dear life :)

**Also, since the group is growing, we can discuss double pace lines or rotations before we start.

***There was also a request for an additional sprint/surge from the second bridge (just before Chico River Road) to Chico River Road and regroup. This of course is optional, with agreement that all riders will regroup at Chico River Road after the sprint (reminder, no drops).

Forecast (as of 6-6-11): Wednesday ~~~~ Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Calm wind becoming south southwest around 5 mph.

Just a Refresher: "There are two rides leaving together at 5:30. The Fit 50 and the Fun 50. In joining the ride, riders in both groups agree to the following conditions. The two groups will start together and ride as one group. The speed will be 18-19 mph and no faster. It will serve as a warm-up until the group makes a right turn onto Durham Dayton from Fimple. At this time the Fit 50 will surge ahead and reach their cruising speed of 22 -24mph +, eventually turning left onto Troxel.  The Fun 50 (just for fun) will surge as well, catching drafts from the Fit 50 or their own Fun 50 riders (Fun 50 does not do Troxel). No worries about the speedsters, as we are to wait & regroup at Dayton Four Corners and bring it back to a cruising speed of 18- 21 mph. The Fun 50 continues straight through 4 corners; eventually turning right on Chico River Road working together as a group, destination back to Rosedale School.

Thank you to all who showed up to ride the Simple Triple with Doni, and the Lame Double as a group.  It was a fun ride!

And, a "thank you very much" to Bob for hosting the coffee stop at Dutch Bros. in Paradise... and the free coffee drinks!  The Iced Kicker is exactly what I needed to get home - thank you!
(if you haven't checked out the new coffee shop in Paradise... it's really nice with comfortable outdoor seating.  Very cyclist friendly.  It's up Skyway on the left, from Honey Run... well worth the extra climb!!)

ps Bob - when are we going to see the Dutch Bros. Mafia / Cycling Team Kits??  :-)

Jan, I won't be there tonight.  Between Friday's ride, Sunday's Inskip run and last night's warm ride, my body is telling me to take a day off.  Late nights waiting for my wife to call and tell me she is home safely from trapping cats in an alley in Long Beach probably aren't helping either.
Have a great ride, drink plenty it's hot out there.

We had such a good time a couple Fridays ago in Oroville.  We are getting back on those mountain bikes...

Friday, June 24
9:30 Powelton and Skyway 1-2 miles before Inskip on left.
Some of us have done this ride before.  It is very easy, basically a fire road, nothing technical and all beautiful scenery.  The only suggestion I have is to have saddle time as out and back is approx. 38-40 miles to Butte Meadows and back to Powellton Rd.

Please see notes from Carole regarding allotted time and what to bring.

Hope you will join us!

Hi Pam

We missed you last Friday. I mentioned riding the A-Line this next Friday with the group and everyone seemed onboard and looking forward to it. I was thinking you might want to post something early so riders can plan for a long day and line up bikes. I also am attaching a link to some photos of the A-line that might give an idea of the ride for those that are curious.

Jack and I rode it last week in three hours even, round trip (ride time only). I would plan on four hours for a larger group, plus lunch time, and driving time. I suggest we meet at Powelton and Skyway at 9:30 or 10:00 (you decide). That would get us to Butte Meadows by 11:30-12:00 for lunch at the Outpost and then return by 3:00 to the cars. It can be done faster but it always takes longer with a crowd. I'm good for the whole day. If anyone has questions, feel free to give them my phone number 877-5124.

A couple more thoughts on the A-Line. Each person should have a minimum of two water bottles (or camelback) and two energy bars, plus tire repair stuff, extra tube and money for lunch in Butte Meadows... We can refill our water in Butte Meadows. Two bottles has always been enough for me and I drink a lot. I only thought to mention this because in Oroville, many were thirsty and ran out of water and snacks. At least with this trip we can eat lunch half way. We can eat at the Outpost which I think will be better than where we ate last time.

Pamela, et al:

I had the misfortune of having my Stumjumper stolen sat. morning.

It is dark blue.  Old, but in very good condition!

Special features: blackburn rack on the back, added grip / bars to the handle bar.

I filed a police report.  So, if anyone comes across a Specialized- Stumpjumper, mountain bike "for sale," and you think it might be stolen or fits my description: please call me, or buy it.  I will reimburse!  Reward is also available.

I would like to get word out to the general (biking) community.... I appreciate help in just being aware of bikes that any of you may come accross.

Thank you,

Robert
