Julie,
we do not have a "club" yet. We are still in forming stages. We will
be having a meeting sometime in the next few weeks to form a game
plan. Keep checking here for updates. However, we will send out an e-
mail as soon as we know date, time and place.
Jon Wilson
P.S. Thanks Elliot. Didn't get a chance to see it. Hope it went well.

Not sure how it will turn out, but I was interviewed tonight (as a local "curling expert") for a segment on curling that will be part of the NBC late night news tonight. I think with the Olympics they don't start until 11:30 or midnight - but hopefully this will help generate some interest. And if we get some events organized, the reporter is interested in covering our attempts to get curling started in SD.
The United States Curling Association (USCA) has set up a link for the
LA and San Diego Yahoo groups. They listed it under US Clubs under the
MOPAC Region (Western US). Any inquries for these areas are sent to the
group homepage.
That is one reason for increase in membership past few days.
I'm also up for a meeting, just let me know. I also have a friend
(Andy) who is going to join the club in the next couple of days.
I'd assume that he would attend. If anyone needs to contact me,
just email or call 608 628 8246.

I have created a small data table for the San Diego group. Just to get
an idea of where everyone lives and curling experience. Click on
database on leftside of group page. Once into databas page click
on "Add a Record".
11 members. Not as big as SoCal but we have tripled membership in two
weeks. :-)
I would be up for an SD meeting - this is a long-term project and it would be good to establish a strategy and define some specific tasks we can work on.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays are generally good days for me to meet, although I'm going to be out of town next week and the week after. Ron, if you want to propose a time and place, I'll make it if I can.
Thanks, Jon. I am hoping to watch most of the match. Do we have enough interest in calling a San Diego meeting yet. I can offer my office in Encinitas, or my home in La Jolla. And I would be happy to meet at a restaurant or bar. How many of you would like to meet, and begin to develop Curling in earnest in SD?

Thanks for inviting me to join Curl San Diego! I look forward to
forming a group, and seeing if we can bring curling to SD. To the
leader: Did you invite the two other people from SD who wrote into the
Southern CA curling list, where you saw my email? We need to get
everyone we can. As soon as we find a few more, would you like to have
a meeting?
Ron
OK, we need to get together to watch the Gold Medal Game next week.
Women's is on Thursday 2/23 and the Men's on Friday 2/24. Thing is the
game will be shown live at 8 a.m. So we need to find a place that is
open for breakfast and has big screens. Any suggestions?

Hoefully there will be USA teams in the game. There is a re-broadcast
in the afternoon (2 -5 p.m.). However, I would rather watch live. We
can always stick around and answer questions afterwards.
Let me know if you know of any sports bars open for breakfast.
We now have 6 members! We have doubled today.
Jon
Ooops, some typo's. 7:05 a.m.
Hope to see everyone out next week. I think I have recruited two more
to our group that have been posting on the LA site.
Thanks Richard. I will see how I do (did this alot during the lead up
to 2002). If I screw the pooch I will call out to the bullpen or next
request I will send your way. Good to know we have a professional in
the group.

I can be persuaded to take some time off for that! The fun will be in explaining curling to the rest of the mystified patrons. By the way, I used to host a weekly community affairs radio program on a clear channel station so if you ever need someone articulate to advance the cause of curling don't hesitate to call.
I have been contacted by 1090 AM here in San Diego. They are discussing curling every morning. I will be interviewed or will be explaining curling on Thursday morning. Check ou at &:05 a.m. on 1090 AM. It is the sports station in san Diego.

Happy Holidays to the few Curling Fans in San Diego area. I know there
are more around here somewhere, just need to find them. :-)
The local NBC curling segment got cut back on Nov. 30. They have re-
edited and will show the show again with curling segments. Will be
shown theis Saturday, Christmas Eve, at 6 p.m. and on Sunday, Christmas
Day at 3 p.m. I will eb out of town. Hope you can catch it.
I will be off and sticking home on Dec. 30 and Jan. 2. Coffee or drinks
next Friday or Monday after New Years Day?
Let me know.
Happy Holidays
Jon
Cyurling will be part of this weekends NBC ICE 2006 telecast this
weekend. Scheduled for Saturday and Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. Eastern.
Check local listings for San Diego area.
Curling part will feature a game between the Men's and Women's Olympic
Teams.
Tell family and friends to tune in.
OK, I am starting the process to see what we can do here in San Diego. I am petitioning membership into the Mountain Pacific Curling Assoc. which will lead to membership as a USCA Club. At first it will be a paper club. Might see if the two of you along with me want to start. Might send membership dues off to USCA. Richard, you are probably still a member of Bowling Green, so you could be a provisional member (just means not full dues and no duplicate copy of Curling News).
I am in contact with some local rinks in hopes of getting a "Learn to Curl" event sometime after the Olympic Games.
This is a start. As a paper club we can start using USCA assistance and maybe get a few sets of stones down this way.
There is a chance that 2 sheets of stones will be traveling down to Palm Springs area. I travel up there every few weeks to visit parents, so I could transport stones between two sites until something permanent happens.
Please send ideas and suggestions.
Also, any chance anyone wants to meet on Friday? Afternoon coffee or
evening drink.
Let me know as I will be off all day and can meet. prefer Fashion Valley Mall area or Mission Hill district.

I watched Channel 8 news...darn! Another great local channel for promoting
stuff around San Diego is Channel 9/51. They are so much like the Canadian
Television channels. They feature local artists and bands all the time and Rod
Luck is always on assignment at some local business or group. They may be very
interested in learning more about curling and promoting it. Good luck Jon! I
look forward to being in a league! Adele

Wanted to update all. I was in San Diego this morning and did a little
curling piece for the local NBC affiliate (ch. 7/37). I showed Joe the
weatherman and Laz the sports guy. It was fun and they enjoyed
learning to curl. They say they will help me promote getting a club
started and have some contacts at the SD Ice Arena who also runs the
outdoor rink at the Horton Plaza Downtown. That is where we shot the
curling. It is supposed to be shown tomorrow night as part of some
special Holiday kick-off show. I think it will be at 7:30 p.m. They
might also show little clips during weather and sports tonight (I
think 5 p.m. and again at 6 p.m.)
I supplied a e-mail address I set up and the web address for this
group. Maybe we can get the stone sliding (like a snowball rolling).
I will keep all updated.
Jon W.
Sorry things have not got off the ground here in SD curling wise.
Everyone is busy.
Maybe this will help out a little. The USCA office just contacted me.
The local San Diego affiliate is interested in doing some sort of
curling demo to feature on it's sports show. So, USCA contacted me. I
will contact the affiliate and see what they plan.
It will probably consist of a televised spot of a demo of the game on
ice.
The USCA will try and ship out a few stones and other needs as soon
as I find out more.
I will probably need some help. So if interested, let me know.
Sounds like they want to do something the Monday or Tuesday before
Thanksgiving (11/21 - 22).
Maybe we can promote this website and have something flash on screen
to attract interested parties.
Hope all is well and when I find out more I will plan on a meeting
with those that want to help out.
Jon

I would like to set a date and time for the few of us (3), plus any
friends or family interested in joining, to meet and chat. I need to
know where all liove so I can find a place convenient to all. Let me
know where you live. I am in Escondido.
Also, let me know if it woul better to meet weeknight, weekend evening
or morning.
Get the stone going and we will sweep it into the house!

I contacted my cousins in Quesnel, British Columbia. They belong to a
league up there. I told them that we might be able to start something
down here.
I'm very excited about this. My cousin was teaching me all about the
skip's responsiblities, and how the game is played. I think I get the
basic idea of how to curl. I watched my parents when we lived in
Ottawa.
I'm really looking forward to the possibility of a curling league
starting up in the San Diego area.
Keep me posted......Adele
