We have typically depended on a few of our more experienced players
to teach – usually that’s Jon Wilson (who will be there but may be
running a little late), Richard, and myself. More people to help teach
would be very helpful – if you have a bit of experience (you don’t
have to be a great curler, just know how to do it), please come on down and
lend a hand. And if people could let us know they are coming in advance,
hopefully Meaghan will be able to sleep a little easier.
We don’t have a standard lesson plan, but it generally goes
something like this:
1)
Off-ice explanation of how the game is played
2)
On-ice, practice sweeping in a straight line
3)
Pushing out of the hack with broom on the ice (no rock)
4)
Pushing out of the hack with a rock
5)
4-step delivery (weight back, raise hips, lean forward, drop into slide)
6)
In-turn/out-turn, releasing the rock
7)
Play a couple ends
For money collection, Bob won’t be able to make it, so if
anyone else can take charge of that, please let me know.
As for next session, I haven’t heard from several people, but
right now we’re at about 5 teams. With a few more people we’ll
have enough for a league, and hopefully we can pick up 2 more teams.
Please let me know if you want to play!

Subject: [Curl_SanDiego] Open House on Saturday
Howdy Folks,
I lost quite a bit of sleep last night worrying about the upcoming
Open House this weekend. I'm left wondering a few things and I hope
someone can clear them up for me:
1) Who will be teaching our new recruits? Elliot, are you assuming
that whoever shows up will teach?
2) Has someone put together a lesson plan?
3) Will many of our current members be coming for moral support
and/or to help teach?
4) Who will be there collecting dues?
5) Do we have guaranteed numbers for next session? The board has
been pretty quiet with regards to response from many of the old
teams... will we have a "next session"?
We've only got two more sleeps until the big night and it would be
nice to feel comfortable going in to this.
Thanks,
Meaghan
