MINUTES OF JAN 27 MEETING WITH UPDATED TREASURER'S REPORT   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #274 of 671 |
Meeting was held at UTC Food Court in La Jolla, CA, and was called
to order at 4 PM. Present were Elliot, Jon, Ron, Bob, Kris, Val, and
Wojteck Augustyniak.

1. Treasurer's Report:
a. Club membership rosters are complete and dues have been submitted
to both USCA and MOPAC. After paying these dues and depositing
receipts from the December Open Houses, the club's treasury contains
$516.00. (NOTE: This figure is current, updated since the meeting.)
b. The official roster for USCA consists of fourteen names. More can
be added as the year progresses. Those on the roster are encouraged
to visit the USCA website, create a userid and login, and update
their information as necessary.
c. All who write checks to the club are reminded to make checks
payable to "Robert J. Weber, Jr.," the club's treasurer. The bank
may not honor checks made out to "Curl San Diego," as that
organization does not yet officially exist. The name on the account
will be changed upon receipt of the proper paperwork, but until
then, please complete checks as detailed herein.

2. Stone preparation and storage:
a. The club has 4 sets of stones in all. Three are on the
way, and one (donated by North County Scots) is on hand.
b. Stones will be stored at the Ice-O-Plex; negotiations are still
underway regarding specifics.
c. There was some discussion of plans to build a rack or
other facility for keeping the stones cold and ready for play.
Anyone with ideas for design and construction of such a rack should
contact the club.
d. When stones arrive at the Ice-O-Plex, we will need help
assembling them. There was talk of combining a stone prep session
with an ice prep session; we would assemble stones and paint in the
houses on the ice at the same time. Watch the Yahoo! group for
updates on when this will occur.

3. League play:
a. We look to begin league play in March. There will be an
organizational meeting in late February (probably on the 24th) to
set up the leagues. The exact date of this meeting will be announced.
b. League play will most likely be held the second Saturday
of each month for an eight-month period beginning in March; the
sessions will likely begin around 8:30 PM, although the precise time
slot is still under negotiation, as are ice fees. A precise figure
has not been reached, as of yet; however, curlers participating in
league play should expect to spend approximately $150 for the season.
c. Ron has volunteered as liaison with Ice-O-Plex on these
and other matters.
d. Jon has volunteered to be League Manager.

4. Publicity: North County Times wants to do a story on our group.
More to come…

5. Fundraising: We need money! Anyone with ideas should talk with
Elliot or Bob. We also need someone artistic to design a club logo;
we could then sell T-shirts, polos, pins, etc.

6. Equipment: The club has ordered 2 new hacks, a stick for pushing
rocks (for those who cannot slide), and several full sole sliders.
Elliot suggested that club members purchase their own sliders,
either online or through the club (limited supply). It was also
suggested that curlers purchase their own brooms, as the club does
not have enough to cover four sheets of curlers. We have worked with
Dakota Curling Supplies in the past and recommend them; however,
other suppliers are online.

7. There was some discussion of the possibility of Curl San Diego
hosting a late summer or early autumn Bonspiel. It was decided to
revisit this issue in future meetings.

Meeting adjourned at 5:10 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Weber
Sec/Treas
Curl San Diego
