Okay, so, Chicks and I were talking over IM last night about how disgusted we are with the DH board: I mean, we've had four solid starts/wins, and not only are these guys still bitching, but they've totally neglected to acknowledge what our team and pitchers have done. They ignore the fact that ZMan buckled down and regained control. They ignore the fact that Prior and Wood came off the DL and kicked ass... and they ignore the fact that Maddux showed everyone what an "old man" can do... So, I decided to ask them the following question: "Is it possible, when the Cubs are winning, to stop complaining?" (Not that I agree with some of their complaints even when the boys have trouble).
The following is a copy of the message I posted on that board. As always, I may have started a shit storm, and if I did, I apologize if any
of you feel it's annoying or unwarranted.
Come on, guys, we've had 4 wins in a row, with our pitchers taking control.
How come no one has said, hey, Prior and Woody are back? Or, wow, Zman really pulled it together? Or, geez, Maddux is doing well, and right now, he's our most stable pitcher and has the most wins?
You guys can jump all over me if you want, I don't care anymore, because this has to be said: even when things are going well for us, you guys have to find something to complain about. You know why Smackermack asks for positive posts? Because there are hardly any on this board anymore! The team wins, a player does an excellent job, and there's not a word about that... instead you guys find some new thing to nitpick and go on about.

GuBonnie and Smacker,
I have to respectfully disagree about something here. I, too, hate
negativity
and there has been plenty on this board in the last few months.
Having said
that, I believe most of what is being posted now is constructive and
deals with
trades to improve the team we all love and agonize over. If you do
not want to
"harp" on a player becuase he is a Cub and you are optimistic that is
okie-dokie
by me, but if somebody wants to point out faults in a player like CP
and does it
in a constructive manner that should also be fine. The cubs have
played very
well the last 4 games, however the team needs to build on that and
play a lot
more consistently before I will be happy.
Furthermore, I do not believe this board to by un-typical in any way,
shape or
form. By that I mean that any board i have ever belonged to has always
generated more posts when the team did poorly, than visa-versa.
As a poster, don't send out an e-mail pleading for postive posts from
others. I
can not speak for others, but personally that makes me less likely to
respond.
Rather, post something positive yourself, and see if other posters
jump all over
that thread. I have seen a lot of positive things in the last few
games, but
becuase of all the "pleading" have been reluctant to post my thoughts.
Anyhow, that is just my .02.

Smacker,
I look at it this way: if you're going to complain when they're doing
poorly, the least you can do is give credit to them when they win. I
mean, shouldn't they want to congratulate the players when they do
something well?
I was really pissed off by the comment that Maddux should be traded,
especially considering that he has the most wins and has been a rock
in the storm when it comes to our pitchers (what with the injuries
and all). Not only that, but there have been many games where I was
really proud of him for bringing in a winning attitude (vs BoSox and
CWS to name a few). The CWS win was after the little zinger about
trading him, but has anyone said "I might have been a bit hasty?":
no. Has anyone bothered to say, hey, our pitchers (Maddy included)
have done well? No! Not even when Prior kicked ass, despite the way
that they were treating him like the golden boy of the team (not that
Mark didn't do well, he did... but one would think if they all
thought he was so much better than the others, they would at least
mention his great win...).
I'm just tired of the DH group being this way: I think they need to
stop and think about how negative they are. I could have posted a lot
about Maddy and the other pitchers doing well on that board, but I
know I will get crap for it. I'd rather post here, in this smaller
group, where I know that you guys know where I'm coming from.
Know what the saddest thing is? We fangirls here in this group
OBVIOUSLY know more about the game of baseball and its intricacies
than all of these men... They should be ashamed: maybe they are and
that's why they give us crap. I know that some people are intimidated
by me when we start to discuss Maddy (because I've watched him for
more than half of my life and I know a lot about his life, how he
thinks on the mound, and what I can expect out of him)and I will
defend him vehemently. Don't get me wrong, I like other players and I
love the Cubbies, but my loyalty to Maddy is very strong. It truly
saddens and sickens me that the men on the DH board do not realize
who he is and what he represents. Then again, since he has done more
with his life than most of these guys probably have, I wouldn't be
surprised if they were jealous of his achievements and the loyalty
that he inspires in his fans.
Sorry, got off on a rant there. The only diehard thing about that
group is that they are diehard piss-ants who would rather search for
something to bitch about than to relax and enjoy the games.

Well, you know, when Greg started back in High School, he was a second
baseman, not a pitcher. It didn't take long for his coach to realize
that Greg had a cannon on his arm...
I just love my baby's accuracy...it's beyond yummy!!

Smacker,
Well which is it then?? YOu post that we all have differing
opinions, and
people should just not read posts they don't agree with. At the same
time, you
bemoan the negative posts on this board and try to initiate threads
that only
deal with positives. So which way is it going to be?? I think that
you need to
go back and read your post ...

THIS IS THE PLACE FOR DIEHARD CUBS FANS!!! No matter what..we stick
with our Cubbies!! but we also have good conversation on what we
would do to make this team a champion...just no bashing other
members..sometimes we have to agree to disagree..but we all have the
same thing in common We are Cubs fans!!!GO CUBS GO ...
Time for this again. This is obviously an agree to disagree post
about Greg Maddux. We are all on the same side. Everyone here is a
Cubs Fan - we have differing opinions because we just do.
If you don't like what a particular poster or post says, then you
have the choice not to read it. If you Choose to read them, then
just take what others have to say. Differing opinions make this a
great place, and there is room for more opinions than just one.
In a week where another professional pitcher accused him of cheating
and a so-called "Die-hard" fan called for him to be traded, Maddy came
right back on Saturday and served both of them (and any other nay-
sayers) a nice, warm cup of shut-the-hell-up! It's funny, when I talk
to a lot of other people (not you guys, obviously) they find some lame
way to detract from Greg's work by calling him old, etc. Well, I think
that Greg showed them all exactly what I was talking about earlier: he
still has the ability to bring it hard and heavy (I shouldn't talk like
that, I'm getting myself excited :-) and show everyone just what he's
made of.
Once again, I'm so proud of my Maddy, it's almost indescribable...
Let's just say, if you hear that a woman jumped on him, yelled "I'm SO
proud of YOU!" and kissed him before the cops pulled her off of him and
took her to jail, you guys should DEFINITELY start getting the bail
money together!! LOLOLOL!!!
Bonnie
I am sure us girls will not have trouble with this thread lol
If you saw anything positive about todays game please Post it here!!!
I will start off with the pitching of Mark Prior. We shall see how he
feels tomorrow - but today was just great!!! GOOOOOOOOOOO CUBBIES!!!
CBS SportsLine.com wire reports
CHICAGO -- Pitch by pitch, Greg Maddux delivered the message: At 39,
he's still effective.
He hit all corners, overcame one rough inning and helped the Chicago
Cubs beat the White Sox 6-2 Saturday to end their crosstown rival's
eight-game winning streak.
"When he gets a feel for his pitches, he's awesome," teammate Todd
Walker said.
Aramis Ramirez supported Maddux with the fifth grand slam of his
career, and left fielder Todd Hollandsworth prevented a home run.
Maddux (7-4) scattered five hits in six innings, struck out six and
did not walk a batter. With his 312th win, he moved past Tom Seaver
into sole possession of 17th place on the career list.
The Cubs improved to 37-36, and Mark Prior and Kerry Wood are about
to come off the disabled list. Prior is scheduled to start Sunday,
and Wood is expected to pitch Wednesday against Milwaukee.
"We've got a lot of time left," Maddux said. "We're over .500. We
need to get 20 games over to have a legitimate shot at the
postseason. ... The Astros came from a lot further back last year."
CUBS WIN CUBS WIN - Maddy wins too !!!

Well DM NEVER posts a positive thing ever... what irritates me is when the Cubs are doing good he seems to drop off the face of the earth. Then the Cubs start losing and he is back at it again. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr it is just very annoying to me

Tom has already responded, of course... in a way that really annoys
me. He said "as Cubs fans, we have a right to be upset if our players
aren't cutting it"... hmm, sounds an awful lot like "because they're
celebrities, we own them".
I really hope that none of the players read the DH board...

This is exactly what I was talking about the other day... so many
people on the DH list don't look at the big picture. Just because
Maddy didn't win every game doesn't mean that there weren't a few
where he pitched well enough to have done so. I sincerely doubt that
any of these guys really understand what baseball is about. They just
flap their gums without thinking.

Hey, guys,
I just wanted to warn you that I may have started a major shit storm on the diehard board.
It finally happened, although not in a grand fashion... but you'll all know why I went off once you read this...
Tom Speziale suggested that the Cubs need to trade Maddux in order to be successful from hereon. I don't like to get nasty, and I still haven't hit critical mass, but there are just some things that make me sick as hell...
The following is what I wrote. I think that all of you will agree with the sentiments I expressed, whether you feel the same about Maddy or not...
I can't believe that you're turning on Maddux. First of all, the way that he pitches (and has ALWAYS pitched) is that he warms up and
gets better as the season progresses. Secondly, there have been 2 or 3 games (at least) that he pitched well enough to win, but the rest of the team could not get behind him. Third, the man is a plethora of knowledge for the rest of the team, the pitchers especially. It's not Greg's fault (or any of the starters, really) that the Cubs didn't go out and get themselves a good set of relievers over the off season (I mean, come on, not only did they hold on to Hawkins after he had problems last year, but they kept turning to him earlier this year). I'm not saying that Greg doesn't have bad outings, he does, all pitchers do... but, in my opinion (and goodness knows, everyone else has voiced theirs at one point or another, so bash me at will since that's how it goes on this board)the Cubs have failed Maddux and all of their starters. Beyond that, who knows... maybe it's not even the relief staff, maybe it's the coaches that they work
with.
Regardless, it amazes me how fickle everyone is... if a player has a bad game, you call for his head. I've been on this board for over a year and I've noticed that when the Cubs do poorly, you kick them hard... but when they do well, you guys either have to find some minute thing to go off about, or you just don't post... isn't that strange? No constructive criticism, no analyzing what's gone wrong or how to fix it, just "trade him. ax him. he sucks, and not only that, but if you disagree with me, then you suck too".
I'll tell you guys, I have been slowing growing more and more irritated with this board and the attacks on both players and other posters, and hey, if you want to criticize constructively, fine: but I can't just sit back idly while people start to attack Maddux. I truly wonder if some of you have the slightest clue what an incredible asset he is, as a player, and to baseball itself. He's someone who gives all
that he has to every game. There's no greater gentleman in the game, no one else like him. And yet, someone here is willing to treat him like he's no better than a washed up individual to trade away without a second thought.

After this weekend, we are going to be under .500 again and we will struggle to get back to it the rest of the year. Hallosworth, Patterson, Remlinger, Barowski
and perhaps Maddux should be traded or let go by the trade deadline.
