RE: [Combat-Handgun] New...questions about Cobra .038

Welcome to the group, Debbi.

This question us most often posed by a man for his wife in the form of;
"What pistol do I get for my wife?"

In your case, you have cut out that roadblock!

Will this be a gun for carry purposes and/or home defense?

My general recommendation would be to visit gun shops to see what is
available. If you aren't allowed to shoot various handguns, at least you
will be able to handle a large number. Ask around. Ask friends and fellow
shooters. Seek out a class designed to help a woman to choose the right
handgun.

You have several criteria to meet that would fit your personal needs:

1) Size. Yes, size does matter. It must fit your hand and you must be able
to use all the controls (if any, such as magazine release, slide release,
safety, etc.)

2) Caliber. This one is a bit more personal. Recoil is the real question
here. Anything from .22 LR to very large revolver calibers can be the answer
for you.

3) Price. Unfortunately, a good quality handgun will likely cost a large
piece of change, but will also be a good investment. Taurus is now making a
fine line of both revolvers and autos. They might be less expensive than
U.S.-made handguns. Ruger handguns are also relatively moderately priced.

4) New v. Used. A good used handgun can be a lot cheaper than a new one.

The first hurdle will be to find the type, brand, and caliber that you want.
The second step will be to find one.

Good luck with the 'hunt.'

Subject: [Combat-Handgun] New...questions about Cobra .038

I took a concealed weapons permit class and I am looking at purchasing
a handgun that is light, small and not terribly expensive.

I found a Cobra .038 for $139 locally, and was curious if anyone knows
anything about these guns. I would really welcome any input.

I am a gal who wants to learn. I am brand new to this group, so go
easy on me. I don't know much about guns. I have shot both rifles and
pistols, and I am a good shot with a target, but I don't know much of
the lingo that goes with guns. I may sound really stupid at first,
because of my lack of knowledge...please be patient. lol
