Good article. Here's a few things I picked up as a Government armorer and
federal firearms instructor.
Slip 2000 has amazing rust preventative properties. While visiting the Shot
Show a civilian brought an experiment to the Slip 2000 booth while I was talking
to the proprietor. He had taken several lengths of carbon steel, mounted them
to a board and placed the board on a Gulf of Mexico break water. Each length of
steel had been coated with a different, and common, gun lubricant/protectant.
The only piece that showed no rust was the piece covered with Slip 2000.
The article mentioned not storing weapons in foam lined cases/boxes due to the
moisture retention properties of foam. Foam will also outgas due to pressure
and temprature changes. This vabor is also damaging to carbon steel and can
increase the rate that rust sets in.
