You have "...a few Kimbers...." so you obviously like them. Kimber is
the company that proved you can have a lot of good features without
having to spend $800 on a Colt .45 Auto and then spend $2000 at a good
gunsmith to upgrade it to a basic competitive handgun. If you like
Kimbers, buy another. I have three of them myself, so I like them
also. The only problem Kimbers that I have heard about were the
polymer-framed guns. I don't know if they have worked the problems
out of those or not. The Grand Raptor II has some uniquely scalloped
gripping areas on the slide, adjustable night sights and a very
distinctive look. If you like it and can afford it, buy it; its your
money and your choice.

STI makes good guns also, from what I have been told; I do not own any
and do not have direct experience with them.

While there are a lot of good manufacturers of the M1911 on the
market, there are a few bad ones also. That, I know about, because I
have had a few that were best used as boat anchors. All of my bad
M1911s could not be trusted to go "BANG" every time I pulled the
trigger (and two of those were Colts), so I traded them off to some
other unlucky soul; my Kimbers always work.

Enjoy.
