ELLENSBURG, WA - February 13, 2006 - Central Washington University Swim Team
defeated Western Washington University (1028-765 points) at the first annual ASA
U.
Western Regional Championships this weekend. Western Washington won the men's
competition with 248 points. Standout performances included Jason Merrifield
(WWU), the
men's high point winner with 137 points, who clocked in at a respectable 49.92
in the 100
freestyle, and Emily Von Jentzen who racked up 160 points to win the women's
high point
award.

The Western Regional Championships kicked of the American Swimming Association
University League's 2005-2006 Championship Series which will culminate with the
2nd
Annual ASA U. National Championships, April 22-23, 2006 hosted by Buckeye
Masters
Swim Club at Ohio State University. Buckeye Masters Swim Club is sponsored by
Greenhouse Aquatics Swim Shop in Columbus (http://www.greenhouseaquatics.com).

To support ASA U.'s membership drive and encourage attendance at this year's ASA
U.
National Championships at Ohio State, new ASA U. member-team Georgia Tech Swim
Club
will waive entry fees for ASA U. clubs attending their East Coast Championships
(ECC's)
this year. This benefit for ASA U. members is an intermediate step toward
making ECC's
an ASA U. sanctioned meet next year. ECC's will take place March 31 through
April 02,
2006 at the Georgia Tech Campus Recreation Center in Atlanta.

The American Swimming Association University League is an association of
student-run
swim clubs from colleges and universities across the United States that enjoy
the sport of
swimming in a friendly, competitive environment. ASA U. was founded in response
to the
elimination of so many college and university swimming teams across the country.
