Dear Club Officers,
We're starting to figure out which teams will host our ASA U. Regional
Championship
Meets next year (qualifying meets for our ASA U. National Championship, for
which we're
looking for a host as well).
By having regional meets, everyone will be able to have a big meet in their
area, and then
focus their big travel plans for the Spring on Nationals (depending on where it
is; it may be
in your area as well, or even at your pool if you want to try to host it).
We need to figure out what the regions will be. Right now it looks like we'll
have at least
these: Northeast (Mass., Vermont, ...), East, Southeast, Midwest (Ohio,
Tennessee, ?),
South, and Northwest (Washington, Oregon, ...). If you would like to host a
regional meet,
please contact me soon.
As of right now, these are the teams we have listed in the league for next year:
Colorado Swimming and Diving
Central Washington University
Northeastern University
Tulane
U.Houston
U.Tennessee
U.Vermont
UVA
Of course, the sooner we know your team will join, the more we can consider you
as a
meet host. These teams are either full member-teams already, or some of them
have
registered a few swimmers from their teams and sent those in to show their
commitment
to register the whole team next year.
If your team would like to be involved next year, I encourage you to register at
least a few
swimmers now, so we can start planning meets. We will register 5 people for $50
as a
commitment to join next year. That way, some of your swimmers can participate
this year
too, and we'll be flexible about the numbers who can participate this year.
Our first ASA U. National Championships is April, 02, this year, 2005, in
Houston at the
new indoor 50m x 25yd pool. As you see above, we will have teams coming all the
way
from Washington state and Massachusetts for this meet. It is a very unique
opportunity to
be a pioneering team and get our league off to a great start going into next
year. We have
already secured sponsorship for the meet and will get nationwide publicity. I
hope you will
be a part of it, or at least register some swimmers now so you can be in on our
plans for
next year. This league will belong to all member-teams equally, and your input
will help
shape it.
