FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Intercollegiate Swimming League Welcomes New Club
Houston, TX, February 17. The Adult Swimming Association University League (ASA
U.)
expanded today to six pioneering student-run swim clubs in its inaugural year
with the
addition of Central Washington University Swimming Club. CWU Swimming Club was
founded in response to the elimination of the school's varsity program last
year. The
Adult Swimming Association's stated purpose includes "creating opportunities for
student
athletes for whom competitive swimming opportunities have been limited by
Federal,
State, or Institutional policies." ASA U. is pleased to welcome CWU Swimming
Club as the
latest Member-Team to fulfill that part of its mission.
With the addition of CWU, the Adult Swimming Association University League spans
the
nation, from the Northwest, south to Cougar Swim Club at the University of
Houston, and
east to Northeastern University Swimming Club in Massachusetts. Many of these
clubs
welcome as members alumni, faculty, and staff, in addition to current students.
Furthermore, ASA U. provides professional swimmers, who might otherwise be
excluded
from college swimming, opportunities to represent their schools in competition.
Member-Teams will meet on April 02, 2005 to hold the First Annual ASA U.
National
Championship Meet for student-run swim clubs at colleges and universities. With
more
teams set to join, the league will be looking to for Member-Teams to host
regional
qualifying meets next year for its second ASA U. National Championship Meet.
The Adult Swimming Association University League is an association of
student-run swim
clubs from colleges and universities across the United States. ASA U. was
founded in
response to the elimination of so many college and university swimming teams
across the
country. ASA U. welcomes all swim clubs affiliated with higher-education
institutions and
supports them in their inception, as well as offering means of pooling
resources,
negotiating benefits, and setting standards for collegiate clubs. For more
