Did some extra IT band streteches before and during my 7 mile run last night and
it seemed to help. Pain during most of the run, but it mostly went away during
the last half mile or so.

Same pain this morning. I am trying to keep stretching and see where it gets me
before my DR appt on Tuesday.

Thanks!

It started when I was home to see my Dad. I did not run for six days, did not
stretch, and spent most of the time sitting in a hospital chair. It started
hurting when I got back.

Shoes are new and are the same model shoes I have been wearing since April.

I will see what the doc says!

Rengaw ~ I suggest you continue running until told by a profession to stop; you already do way less training than is appropriate in my opinion. However, I also suggest you try the following:

1.    Check and make sure your shoes are not causing the problem; they're usually the culprit. A fresh pair is the fastest way to do this.

2.    Stand up straight in front of a mirror and see if your hips are tilted; one shoulder will appear lower than the other if so. A good chiropractor can correct this.

3.    See what your doc says and follow his/her advice.

Bottom Line ~ New running shoes (maybe a different model), chiropractic adjustment, whatever the doc discovers, or a combination of the above will most likely resolve your situation.

Still hurts. Ran last night and my knee started hurting. I can feel the tight
muscle in my thigh. I have a doctor's appt on Tuesday.

The thigh pain is bearable, but the knee pain, probably caused by the tight
muscle, concerns me.

Do I keep running?

Stretching and walking seemed to loosen up my thigh, which means it is probably
just a tight muscle and nothing worese. So, I ran my usual 4 miles easy
yesterday. It hurt a little, but not bad.

Sore again today, but not as bad as Saturday. Today is a scheduled off day, so
I will stretch it a lot today and make sure I move around a bit. It should be
fine.

Sun: 4 Miles
Tue: 7 Miles
Fri: 4 Miles
Sat: 16.2 Miles in 2:36.

My left thigh hurt this week. I ran through it and it did not really bother me
until Saturday. It hurt during my entire run. Later on Saturday I was limping
a lot.

I think it is just a muscle, but it feels deep. It is in the middle of my
thigh. My knee on the same leg started hurting late in the run and off and on
later yesterday. Probably a compensation issue.

I may rest today and stretch and massage it myself and see how it feels on
Monday. If no improvement, I might have to see a doc.

I only ran on Sunday last week (four miles). I had a family emergency and had
to go home to Buffalo on Tuesday night. Thus, no runs Thur - Sat.

The family situation is fine now. I ran Sunday and hope to get back to my
training this week.

Sun: 4 Miles
Tue: 7 Miles
Wed: 7 Miles
Fri: 4 Miles
Sat: 14 Miles

36 Miles total. Good week.

The 14 miler felt easier than the 12 I did two weeks ago. Probably because it
was cooler and less humid.

Going to Buffalo Thursday night. I hope I can get my runs in while I am there.
It should be nice and cool.

Rengaw ~ I checked with the owner of Fleet Feet – Atlanta today because I'm a Mizuno person and know very little about Asics brand shoes. Paul says the 2140's only have cosmetic changes. I therefore suggest, the next time you see me, you have me show you a few lacing techniques that might resolve your dilemma.

PS: The next time you go to shopping, try the wider version again and have the salesperson show you how to loop lace them. That should resolve the loose heel issue.

I have been wearing the Ascics 2000 series shoes pretty much since I started
running and I have never had a problem. I started wearing the new 2140s several
months ago and sometimes I feel like the inside of the front of my right foot is
rolling off of the platform of the shoe. It gets worse the longer I run.

I got a new pair of 2140s last week. While at the store, I tried on a pair of
the wide width shoes. The forefoot felt great, but it felt really loose in the
heel. I did not want to buy them and have them not work out and waste the
money, so I went with the regular width.

Coach told me my shoes are too loose. I tightened the laces, which seems to
have helped some what, although they are not as comfortable for the rest of my
foot now. But after trying on the wide width shoes, I am wondering if the new
version of the 2140s are more narrow than prior versions.

Rengaw ~ Congrats on running a good P'Tree. I suggest you consider working the event for me next year. I can guarantee reserved parking near the finish, a great location to meet your wife and lots of other special perks.

On another note, it appears my 65-69 state record was broken. However, it also appears to have been accomplished by a cheater. I'll know for sure once the photos become available. I'm also sure this was actually run by a much younger individual, as I doubt a local 67 y/o no one ever heard of, w/no seeding time (bib#32875) and no previous results posted at athlinks.com, could legally achieve a world-class finish time of 37:34 on a hilly 10k from the middle of a pack of 55,000 run/walkers.

I beat my time from last year by over 3 minutes.

I ran a 51:07 this year. Last year was 54:15.

          2009 2008
Mile 1: 8:23 8:27
Mile 2: 7:43 8:14
Mile 3: 7:52 8:01
Mile 4: 8:27 8:48
Mile 5: 8:53 9:48
Mile 6: 8:07 8:55
Mile .2: 1:42 2:02

Better pacing this year (finally). I felt like I was running too slowly over
miles 1-3, but my patience paid off and I ran a better Mile 4-6.

I picked up :44 seconds over last year of the first three miles, but I picked up
2:24 over the last 3.2 miles.

This might be my last Peachtree. I am tired of the people who cheat, who jump
in half way through the race or run in the wrong time group. But most of all, I
am tired of dealing with the crazies.

Last year a guy stopped running right in front of me while I was picking it up
over the last .5 miles and I told him he needed to move to the right if he
wanted to stop. He caught up to me and got in my face and said slow people
(meaning me) should move to the right.

This year, in the first .5 mile, a guy kept jostling me. He hit the back of my
arm a few times, but I did not think much of it because that early on it is
really crowded. But then he gave me a full forearm shove that pushed me
sideways. I asked him how many times he was going to hit me and he responded
that he was "following the white line". It took me a few seconds to realize he
was talking about the white line on the road. Apparantly his "strategy" was to
follow the white line on the road and I was in his way. I told him he was
insane, that there were too many people. He just grumbled and said, "yeah, I'm
insane."

He got a little ahead of me and I saw he was wearing a self-aggrandizing shirt
announcing that he was running in his 30th straight Peachtree. (who cares?) I
wanted to ask him in how many of those races he hit people. I thought about
messing with him, but I wanted to run my race.

I am tired of the circus that surrounds the Peachtree. I think I will sit it
out from now on and just run my regular races. My wife said she wanted to run
next year. I am happy to let her run and I can watch her next year.

Interesting where the shirts end up then. Probably not what the race directors
had in mind

Rengaw ~ I saw and saved it from an on-line, non-P'Tree, article I saw many years ago.

FYI: Left over shirts are given to the 3rd world similar to the way used running shoes are.

Thanks! It really was fun. Met some good people, too.

It was a cool change from running on the roads and trails.

I ran the 3000M Classic last night on the track. It was the first time I ran a
track race.

I finished in 13:26, which is faster than I thought I would run, so I am very
happy with the result.

Sun: 4 Miles
Tue: 12 x 200 5 miles total.
Thu: 4 Miles
Sat: 4 mile race in 32:53.

Race was not as fast as I hoped.

Mile 1: 8:00
Mile 2: 8:00
Mile 3: 8:17
Mile 4: 8:36

I thought was probably going to run between 32-34, but I hoped I could be down
close to 32.

Does not bode well for the Peachtree. I was hoping to get down to 50 minutes
when I started my training, but probably not now.
