I have been "taking the winter off". Basically, I am not training
and running when I can. Obviously, it does not mean I am not racing,
but it means I rarely run more than 4 miles, and run only when I have
time. It is actually refreshing and I think it will make me more
focused when I start training regularly again. I will start running
more consistently (I hope!) when the time changes.
Looking back over the years, I have usually trained for a Spring race
during the winter. I usually hated it and did not train very well
due to darkness, cold and other weather, holidays, etc. I also
usually felt guilty when I did not train properly during the winter.
So, I decided to not beat myself up this year and just run when I
can, do some races, and give myself permission to not be too serious
until the time change in March.
I am looking at making the Peachtree Road Race my goal race for the
first time. Then maybe a fall half marathon.
