--- Week's Training Details ---
08/28 Run. 7.6 mi in 1:01:46 (8:07). Easy run in NJ along brick/concrete sidewalks to gravel trail at park, and back. Very slow starting due to stiffness. Ran 4x1.33 mi loops, clockwise. It was nice to have a cool morning to run, but my legs are feeling it on the hard surfaces. Long work hours are also taking a toll on my energy level. [legs are
tired]
08/29 Bike. Short workout on the stationary bike in the hotel's fitness center (~10.5 mi). [tired, stiff]
08/30 Run. 7.6 mi in 1:00:54 (8:00). Same route as Tuesday run counter-clockwise. Too stiff to run Tempo efforts, so ran at a random pace to coincide with the music I was listening to. Somewhere along the way I mis-stepped and jarred my R-knee further aggrevating the tendinitis. I iced my knee during breakfast.
09/01 Bike. Wife and I went for a easy 14.8 mi bike ride on the path. Then went out for a smoothy and shared a muffin. Great time after a long week and an emotionally
draining evening. Iced my knee. [tired, R-knee]
--- Week's Commentary ---
Work is progressing along, but lots of hours (46 hrs of OT last pay period). This has definitely taken its toll on my energy level and ability to rest and recover. I'm encouraged that I am still getting most of my workouts in but that is based on pure self-discipline and sacrifice to make it happen.
I'm a bit concerned about how me knee will hold up in Monday's race. I really would like to nail a decent time (sub-41:00 would be ideal). I don't think I'm going to run a half marathon at USAF the week before the final triathlon of the season. I think based on work levels and insufficient recovery under those conditions, I don't want to stress myself out running a half marathon that is not as important as Monday's 10K and the
season finale attempt at a longer triathlon distance.
August was my biggest bike month of the year (boosted by the 50 miler a couple of weeks ago) and my second biggest run mileage month. Sadly it was by far my most significantly low swim month. With work travel and no access to a descent sized pool or time to get to the lake I had none other than the triathlon and swim day while on vacation at the beginnig of the month.
I definitely need to get to the lake for some open water swimming this weekend if at all possible, just to stay sharp on my siting. I'm not so concerned on the overall conditioning as I'm more of a technique swimmer now, more than I am a "muscle it" kind.
