Hi fellow buyu!

During last Daikomyosai, Peter King has gracefully agreed to come over
to the Bay Area for the seminar about Amatsu, the traditional Japanese
health system.
As you know, Hatsumi Sensei is the Soke of AMATSU TATARA HICHIBUKU
GOSHINJUTSU and Peter King is one of the four people awarded Menkio
Kaiden in that system and the right to teach.
For more information on Amatsu, please go to Peter's website
http://www.amatsu-medicine.com

The two day introductory course that is planned for one of the
weekends in May has the following goals:
- helping bujinkan practitioners to understand how they can maintain
the health of their body with emphasis on musculoskeletal system and
energy system
- self correction exercises
- basic protocols for massage/acupressure that promote repair and
restoration of normal body function.

Non-bujinkan peole who are friends of yours are also welcome to
participate. The content of the course does not involve punching and
throwing hard on the ground and all other goodies that we have during
a usual bujinkan class 8-).

We want to organize that course on a small budget. We are considering
either renting a dojo space for two days or just finding a space in a
park in San Francisco but other options are also possible: details are
all still in the planning stage.
We need about 15 people to make the course feasible. We already have
about 8 who expressed interest. I am convinced this will be a very
rewarding experience for all the participants. Not to mention that
Peter is one of the greatest guys I have met in the bujinkan... Being
able to take your own well-being in your own hands is great. We take a
lot of hard falls, gyaku and so on I have experienced that personally
since I entered the healer path several years ago.

If you would like to attend the seminar or have more questions please
email me at nie9czas@....
We will be finalizing the date of the seminar by the end of this year.

best regards

Mariusz

Our first workshop on Nov. 1st was a great start¡Ä.  we had Shihan Joel Everett and Shidoshi Barry Brodeur show up¡Ä.  Barry is a great guy who has trained with most everyone in the community.  It was great to see him support or workshop.  He had showed some waza¡Çs and henka with the hanbo.  Our next workshop will be Jan. 3rd which will be the first Saturday in Jan. at 9:30.  We will be hopefully bringing  in a guest instructor from Fresno along with his students.  I will keep everyone posted as it gets closer.  We will skip the workshop here in Dec. as I and others will be in Japan for the DKMS.  I am looking forward to a wonderful trip ending a great year training in Togakure Ryu.

We are also in the works of putting together a back from Japan training workshop possibly Dec. 12.  I will keep us posted of location and times when we get them¡Ä.  All Shidoshi¡Çs are welcome to come and teach.

Starting November 1st the first Saturday of the month I will be
starting a monthly workshop which we will be doing each 1st Saturday
of each month. It will be from 9:30-12:30 3 hours with the focus on
Taijutsu and a weapon. It will be outside training if weather
permits or indoors. The location will be at my place which I have
plenty of outside area (I am on an acre) and my garage is set up as
a dojo with mats. The address is 7932 Elmont ave., Elverta, Ca.
95626. It is just north of Sacramento. The cost will be $25.00 and
any Shidoshi that wants to teach is free.
I plan to attend the DKMS in Nov-Dec. I am incorporating this in my
own teachings of which I have classes every Tuesday night from 7-9
but anyone is welcome to attend.
I am also hoping it will be something that later we can have guest
instructors attend and bring us all that are in the area together.

Dear Buyu,
Hi everyone.Hope all of you are having a great weekend in spite of the cold and rainy weather we're experiencing.Yesterday I attended the memorial services of a dear friend I've known since grade school. We hardly saw much of one another after we graduated from high school.Ironically,we still lived in the same town, but never ran into each other very much. When I attended his service and heard so many nice things about his life, remembered the great times we shared as friends and how much he'd accomplished at such a young age,I really regret I didn't stay in touch as much as I could have.
In two weeks Jack is coming to California and this is more than just a seminar in Granite Bay.....this my friends is our bi-annual reunion among our extended family of "Buyu".Don't miss this great opportunity to train among the best pals anyone could wish for...this is a gathering of your extended family.Hope to see you there.Take care!

Dear Buyu,
Hi everyone. It's great to be back online after a couple of weeks without a computer.I had a really nasty virus attack and literally wipe out my hard drive. However, rather than be bummed about the entire ordeal,I used the time to read more books and put more entries into my daily journal. We've become so accustomed to depending on our computers,it was actually refreshing not to worry about it for awhile.Needless to say,I'm glad I'm able to access my e-mails and check the internet.I hope all of you had a great weekend and hope to see all of you in Granite Bay on Saturday-15 November when Jack comes to town for his annual,"Buyu Review".Take care until we meet, again!

Dear Buyu,
Hi everyone.I am very pleased to report that our seminar at Mount Diablo was a huge success with the 12 of us being able to make three 80-foot rappels,as planned. We would also like to extend our congratulations to our 4 candidates who successfully fulfilled all their needed criteria to be promoted to their next rank. Here are the final results of yesterday's "promotion board":
1. Kurt Hansen-1st KYU
2.James Sullivan-1st KYU
3.Felipe Llamas-6th KYU
4.Cameron Heberle-8th KYU

Since this was our last KYU" promotion board" of this year,we decided to create a new event for our candidates which we've dubbed as,
"Best NINJA".The 4 events we had them undergo was;the Run and Ruck March,Rappel and Climb Proceedures,Leadership Skills and finally a Budo Taijutsu skill and question exam. And so this year's "Best NINJA"award goes to James Sullivan who received a training JUTTE made by the Buki Company.Great job,James. All in all,a great day of training and a special thanks to our support and teaching staff who made this all possible.
Hope to see everyone next month when the Granite Bay DOJO will host,"Jack's Buyu Review".Take care until we meet again!

Dear Buyu,
Hi everyone. It looks like we're in for some outstanding weather as we head for Mount Diablo State Park this Saturday. Please be sure to bring water, snacks, a large lunch, warm jacket and leather gloves if you have them. This is one of my favorite places in the whole entire world.I've been coming to Mount Diablo once sometimes twice a year since 1978.I've had the opportunity to teach children as young as 4 years old as well as an entire company of infantry troops to rappel and climb at this very place.

Dear Buyu,
Hi everyone.Ken's just informed us that we've got a "green light" for Jack's upcoming Buyu Review On Saturday-15 November at the Granite Bay DOJO.At the present time, the Buyu Review web page has only received 161 hits.Let's pass the word to the entire Buyu Community and see if we can reach our goal of 500 hits by the time Jack comes to California.Remember, this is a team effort...so let's pull our resources together and make this the largest turnout for a "Buyu Review" to date.Take care!

Hi Dave....  update:

Doug is in Tailand....  he and Rob went there, Rob is back but Doug is still there and to be back on Sunday so I will hopefully get to see him before I leave.

Sokes class was great as usual.  It still was a full class but not the usual 80 people.  We didn't work offf any waza's but talked alot about doing things halfway and letting it go to something else, Juppo sessho...   He made his strikes hidden or hit at a time when the ukei can't do anything. He wants everyone to live as long as he and because of budo he has lived a long life.  He did things where he entered using his arm as a shied, kukan no tate...  and then stricking always making a connection and never letting the ukei reset.  Sensie Oguri showed me some cool thumb grabs and points that soke was doing.... Rob Renner helped explained.

Soke said and has said this my last few trips he is not teaching.  Don't come to Japan to get taught by Soke.  Go to the Judan's or Jugo dan's for this.  he is only showing the feeling of how to do it....  you must only catch this from him.....  Then he was saing you can only do the things he is doing if you have you kihon right...  you must be in the right place with the right timing to make it work, to make the feeling work....

There you go......

I am leaving for another short trip to Japan tomorrow, of which this
will be my third trip this year and plan to attend the DKMS in Nov-
Dec. I hope to have some fresh stuff to share.

I am incorporating this in my own teachings of which I have classes
every Tuesday night from 7-9 but anyone is welcome to attend. I am
also hoping it will be something that later we can have guest
instructors attend and bring us all that are in the area together.

If anymore information is needed feel free to email me at

Dear Buyu,
Hi everyone.Just a friendly reminder that our annual "climb/rappel training"will take place one week from this coming Saturday. Here's an opportunity to learn some basic rock-climbing and rappelling skills in a safe and cooperative environment.Along with the above mentioned training, this will be our final "promotion board"for all KYU ranks this year.Much like the SHUGENJA of ancient Japan,we've decided our tests should take place in and around a natural setting. Thus, our promotion boards will now occur in the mountains, near the ocean or at night.Any black belts attending will be encouraged to sit in as one of our board members.
The very best of luck to James,Kurt,Felipe,Cameron and Steve who'll be our candidates for next week's....entertainment.Hope all of you have a great weekend. And for Danny who's in Japan, bring back some great training to share with all of us.And to Barry, who's out in the surf somewhere in Hawaii, have a slush float and a bowl of saimin for me.Take care until we meet, again!

Sounds good Carl...  I think it will be some good training.  I am at the Asuza now getting ready for Soke's class.  I am jazzed and ready.  Not to many people here at the Asuza.....  I am hopeful of a smaller class.

Take care.

If anymore information is needed feel free to email me at
Dan@bujinkanlifelcom.

It was great to see you too, Dave! It was great training.
I am Polish and so is my accent 8-).

It will be a challenge for me to come to Jack's seminar - family issues. If it were in Cupertino, it were much easier - 2.5 h commute each way to/from Granite Bay pretty much kills the all interaction with my family family: including not talking to kids at breakfast AND at dinner... that is bad... I make an effort from time to time anyway. I ma not sure if I will be able to make it this time, I hoe I will. However I am negotiating sneaking out to Japan for DKMS in December...

see you soon anyway...
take care!

Dear Buyu,
Hi everyone. As long as the weather cooperates, we're gearing up on Saturday-11 October '08 for our annual rock-climbing/rappelling seminar at Mount Diablo State Park. Please e-mail us for any further details.I spoke with Mark Hodel this evening and he had some interesting details to share while he attended one of Jack's regular Wednesday night classes last week. There were about 20 folks participating with most them either;marines,FBI or police officers.Mark was saying the training was very reminiscent of our "old days"with Jack, training in that super hot quonset hut on the marine reserve base in San Diego.I must admit, those were some great training workouts and no one left that place without having sweated half their body fluids from the heat as well as the training.Jack's doing alot of;rolling, punching, kicking and some knife training.
As far as Buyu Camp(E).About 30 participants on Friday. And Saturday and Sunday averaging 60 or 70 folks each day. Many new faces have come into the training and the east coast camp had some international teachers attending such as; Steffan from Germany,Phil originally from Wales, but currently living in Swizerland and Murray from England,if I'm not mistaken. All in all,it was a great camp and Jack was very pleased at how everything came together.Hope all of you are well and if you missed last week's Buyu Fall Seminar, come out to Granite Bay on Saturday-15 November '08 for Jack's end of the year,"Buyu Review".Take care!

the  seminar was really great experience for me! I felt like a kid in a candy store 8-) so many great things to work on and so many high level teachers in one place!

Now, when I look back at it, I find it amazing that there was so much time to play with all those concepts that were shown, given that the seminar was only 5-6 hours long.
Doug has a gift for teaching and for clear presentation of ideas. When he was showing "stuff" it felt quite a bit like being in Japan for keiko 8-).

The "kyoketsu shoge connection" with using sageo was a big surprise for me.

Also, I think it was also great to have the moments where several teachers shared they own view on a given waza.
It seems to me that collecting several different viewpoints is what helps every one of us to find our own individual understanding of the concepts.

Dave, thanks for the inspiring teachi ng on kyoketsu shoge - deconstructing the weapon was a fun and eye-opening approach!

thanks to all the organizers for their efforts!
hope we can do it again!

Mariusz

Dear Buyu,
Hi everyone.Since just about everyone in our community attended yesterday's seminar with Doug,it's almost unnecessary to describe what a superb day of training Saturday was,how ever this is for those of you who were unable to be there with us.We had a head count of about 50 particpants with many folks traveling over 100 miles to be in Granite Bay.Let me say that if the opportunity presents itself,go and train at Ken's new DOJO,it is such a beautiful facility.
Just before attending yesterday,I watched the Ireland DVD and by the way,see about trying to obtain a copy for your personal library.Doug had mentioned this DVD was actually made just as a reference source for the guys in Ireland, but fortunately for us they did allow it to become available to the public.I suppose what really amazed me yesterday was the fact that everything seen during his 3 day tour in Ireland was totally different than what we did in Granite Bay.So when the DVD does become available, you really should get both.
What really seemed to be the main focus yesterday is creating a very realistic situation in which the Kihon Happo presents itself. In other words we usually start in the middle of the fight for the m ost part, but yesterday we got to experience the beginning of the fight and just what actually leads us into using the Kihon Happo. And the same with using a sword. We usually start the attack from Dai Jodon, but yesterday we also saw how this would come about from swords in the obi rather than starting from the middle of the confrontation.
I was very pleased with the tremendous Buyu spirit and the helpful suggestions from all the senior Buyu present. All in all a great seminar put on by our own Doug Wilson and the actual material SOKE is teaching at this very moment at the Hombu. If you weren't able to attend, take a ride somewhere and find a source who did.We learned an awful lot and this is stuff we could be working on for the remainder of the year.A special thanks must go to Ken and Karin Lux for the time and effort they put forth in making this Buyu event a huge success.
And remember, for those of you who like the water,"Water Warrior"kicks off here in Stockton this Saturday/9 August '08.Hope to see you soo n.Take care!

Dear Buyu,
Hi everyone.Another great training event has come and gone.A special thanks to all the Instructors who came together to teach a "breakout session"which was rather unique this time around.Miki started off leading with the Sanchin No Kata and we all added something from our classes which would originate from that beginning format.A great job of keeping the "nagare" going throughout the day with Ken teaching "shurikenjutsu and metsubushi",Jeff teaching the Kihon Happo from the angle of distance and timing,Kevin teaching Togakure-ryu Taihenjutsu,Dale teaching attacking as an attacker aboard an aircraft while trying to protect a stewartess In danger,me teaching "Juttejutsu",Jim teaching taijutsu and to Kevin teaching "Shiho geri" a four-directional kicking drill.
All in all a great and enjoyable day of training. Thanks to all of you who came out to the Granite Bay DOJO.And if you were unable to be there yesterday, plan on joining us on Saturday-15 November, when Jack comes out for his annual "Buyu Review".
For those of you ready to get in some climbing and rappelling this year, come and join us as we host,"Mountain Warrior 2008".This will take place at Mount Diablo State Park on Saturday-11 October '08.This will be my 30th year teaching this program and I've taught kids as young as 4-years old to climb and rappel.Cost is $60.00 and this is an entire day of training.Hope to see you there.Take care!

Dear Buyu,
Hi everyone. Here's a friendly reminder that the first "Buyu Fall Seminar"will be held at the Granite Bay DOJO this coming Saturday.Training starts at 11:00 AM and will go until 6:00 PM.If you did not attend the spring seminar nor the Doug Wilson event, here's your catch to join us for some great training and experience what some of the various Buyu DOJO are training on in their areas.I think what really sets this training apart from the "Breakout sessions"at Buyu Camp is the fact that we all get to train and attend all classes throughout the day. There was mention of doing this at Camp, but we decided to stay with the traditional format of years past and give everyone an opportunity to pick and choose the class or teacher they'd like to train with for that particular hour of the training.
This will be our second time this year to teach in this particular training method and we're all looking forward to training together and catching up with the latest Buyu news since our training in Cupertino. Please tell your pals and set this day aside for a chance to experience a full day of a variety of learning opportunities.BTW,if you have a JUTTE laying around, dust it off and bring to the Granite Bay DOJO.We haven't played with this DOGU in quite awhile.Take care!

Don't watch this if you don't want to see a blatant political
message. And I apologize for posting a political message to these
groups, but I was in tears after watching this (tears of pride),
and thought some of you might appreciate it.

It's about freedom, and the price of freedom.

Dear Buyu,
Hi everyone.Hope all of you are having a great weekend.Sonsik and I spent a terrific weekend in San Francisco celebrating our anniversay. This is without a doubt the most beautiful city in the world. It is always a treat to return to places like Japantown,Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39.If you haven't done this tourist stuff in sometime, give it a shot.Great fun and bring your camera.
We are currently at one week away from our "Buyu Fall Seminar"in Granite Bay.On the seminar website we've received 324 hits.Come on boys and girls, tell everyone you know to log onto Jack's winjutsu.com website and click onto our seminar page and let's see if we can reach our goal of 500 hits for our first ever "Buyu Fall Seminar".Hope to see everyone there.Ken is also planning to have a group dinner across the street from his DOJO,so plan to stay a little longer if you're able.Just like old times in Stockton.Take care!
