Los Angeles advanced to the playoffs in 1996-97 under Bill Fitch, but never went over .500 after starting out 6-5. Los Angeles opened the fourth with a 20-4 run that included a pair of three-point plays by Richardson and a three-point play by Rooks. Orlando scored eight straight points, including a pair of free throws that narrowed the gap to 95-90 with 1:02 remaining. Darius Miles extinguished the comeback, blocking back-to-back layups by McGrady and Darrell Armstrong in the final minute. After squandering a 16-point lead in their loss at Atlanta on Saturday night, the Magic built a 33-20 lead early in the second quarter, but squandered that advantage in a span of seven minutes. Orlando settled for a 51-all halftime tie, despite 26 first-half points from McGrady. The Clippers tied it at 39-all with a 19-6 run, fueled by 3-pointers from Maggette, Richardson and Odom -- and capped by Miles' dunk with 3:30 left in the half. The Clippers, who beat Charlotte at Staples Center on Sunday night, have played home games on consecutive nights 14 times since coming to Los Angeles in 1994-95. On six of those occasions, one of the games was at the Anaheim Pond. They have swept both games five times, lost both four times, and split the other five sets. ... Pat Williams, senior vice president of the Magic and a well-respected motivational speaker, has authored a book titled "How To Be Like Mike." In it, Williams uses Michael Jordan's career as a blueprint for how to succeed. Williams, who also served as general manager for four NBA teams including the 1983 champion Philadelphia 76ers, currently is working on another book titled, "Money Will make You Rich." |
