The White Sox signed right-handed reliever Shingo Takatsu, the
all-time Japanese saves leader, to a one-year contract with a
club option for 2005 on Thursday. With 260 career saves, Takatsu
passed Kazuhiro Sasaki (who pitched with the Mariners from
2000-03) on April 23, 2003 as Japan's all-time leader in saves.
Takatsu led the Central League in 2003 with 34 saves while
going 2-3 with a 3.00 ERA.
