Two bicyclists struck and killed by sheriff's vehicle in Cupertino
By Leslie Griffy - San Jose Mercury News
Two bicyclists were killed when a Santa Clara County sheriff's patrol car crossed the double-yellow line on Stevens Canyon Road in Cupertino and hit a group of riders shortly before 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The crash on a beautiful Sunday morning left the local cycling community and the sheriff's department shaken. Coming around a corner, near a straight-away, the deputy accidentally crossed the center line and struck the group. He called for help and immediately began CPR on one of the fallen cyclists, Morrissey said. Two cyclists, a 29-year-old San Francisco man and a 30-year-old Oakland woman, died. A 20-year-old man was seriously injured, CHP officer Todd Thibodeau said. The fourth rider was not hurt.
Hi Everyone! Hey, is everyone on this e-mail list also a member of the ChicoBikeRides Yahoo Group? If so, Janine and I will probably be using only the ChicoBikeRides list and this one(Chico Century Riders) will be shut down. Let me know if you aren't on the ChicoBikeRides list and I'll give you the link to it so you can get hooked up with it.
Rodney, dont think I am..thanks for sending me the link..Shelley

Just wanted to give a quick announcement that the next few weeks of May is Bike Chico! There are many cycling events planned - culminating with Bike Commute Week from May 14th - 18th. A HUGE thank you goes out to Karen Goodwin for organizing these event.
There will be a lot of other cycling happenings going on during the month of May as well - stay tuned to the Chico Velo website for updates, as well as the Chico Corsa website. www.ChicoVelo.org and www.ChicoCorsa.com . I will put announcements out to the lists as events come about......AND, if you'd like to volunteer at any of the listed events, please contact Karen at 345-7347(during normal business hours).

Ah....the Power Meter. Every wonder why pro peloton swears by them?? Ever looked into getting one yourself? Well, now you can find out all the info on the use of power meters:
This Friday, May 4th, at the monthly Chico Corsa Cycling Club meeting, Coach Mike Trowbridge will be giving a presentation on the use of Power Meters for training, racing, riding. The meeting will start at 6:00pm and will be held in the presentation room at Mountain Mikes Pizza on the corner of Walnut(Nord) and 5th Avenue. Mike has developed a thorough talk on the use of Power Meters, and will answer questions from the group. The presentation is free - all are welcome!
I saw that article too and found it worrisome. Anyone heard from Rodney on this? I rode Honeyrun Monday about 1 pm and it was open, and freshly patched for about a mile of its length--very messy, two-foot circles that coat your tires with tar and gravel. Anyone want to volunteer to drive up and down the road in a car a few dozen times to pack it down?
I heard it was just during the week and shouldn't affect this Sunday. But then again, I haven't been out there to see for sure. Anyone have more info than that?
There was a little news piece in the E-R on Tuesday or Wednesday that seemed to suggest that a portion of Honey Run between the Covered Bridge and Paradise would be (or already was) closed for repairs.
Can that possibly already be in effect or does it (surely) apply after the Wildflower?

Any definite answers out there?

Anybody want to ride somewhere tomorrow (Tues)--somewhere that isn't up Hi 32, that is? I'll be setting out. I can go any time--5:30 seems to be the norm.
I concur with Jay. Pardee is a pretty good ride experience. The weather was nice and the route is challenging enough to make the trip. I'll probably do it again next year.
Hi Guys! Hey, I was still plannin' on riding this Thursday evening(April 12th) if y'all want to go. I was thinking about maybe riding up to the Disc Golf course on Hwy. 32 and back.......or wherever we'd all like to go. Let me know if you'd be interested and we'll get it going!
Just discovered an interesting thing about web shopping for bike parts. Cambria has a new deal: if you find part they carry on sale at any other source (webstore, magazine ad, etc.) for less, they'll beat the other guy's price by 5%. Thus they were selling Dura Ace chains for $23 (list $35), but Performance had the same chain for $22, so I told the website that, and they dropped their price to $20.90. I don't know if it works on absolutely anything, but it's worth a try. Especially since Cambria is a nice company to deal with. On the down side, their website ordering process was a mess and I had to call them to straighten out the order, but what the hey.

Rodney's been going to city council meetings lately to try to push a new measure that allows him, and him only, to dictate when people in this town can ride.
I'm personally a little scared, and staying home on Thursdays.
