The Party Pardee (4/7) is now open for registration. Absurdly early to think about it, but they do close it off after a certain number and it does fill early. Last year, two buds and I wanted to ride it and only I got in. Pleasant, low-key metric (only) century through the foothills south and east of Sacramento--just on the western lip of the Gold Country, mostly agricultural/ranches, all small country roads, very little traffic, moderate climbing--good ride for non-climbers. Good lunch afterwards, with free Mumbo Gumbo concert (in past years). Weather is risky--good chance of rain in April. I'm doing it unless the weather is Biblical. I'll drive down the night before--know an excellent cheap motel nearby. Let me know if you want to hook up. 899-1333 if you want to call. JR
That sounds great! I have to work at all of the Chico Velo events, but I think doing the Tour de Lincoln, Sierra Century, Mt. Shasta Summit Century and some others would be fantastic. Anyone planning on trying to enter the Death Ride this year??? I know it's lottery, but wasn't sure if anyone was going to try for it.
Paskenta Century 2/4 Rice Valley Tandem 2/11 Tour of the Unknown Valley 3/4 Here are the rides that I'm interested in. I can't make all of them, but I just wanted to have it as a reference for the year.
Party Pardee 4/7 Wildflower 4/22 Tour de Lincoln--whenever Wine Country Century 5/5 Grizzly Peak Century 5/6 Indian Valley Century 5/26 Sierra Century 6/2 Tahoe century (America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride) 6/3 6/23 Best of the Bay 6/23 Sumer Soltice Century Fall River Century 7/14? Tour of the Unknown Coast #2 9/15-16
Let me know about anything interesting that I'm missing. JR
Questions remaining When's the Tour de Tahoe (aka Bike Big Blue)? When's the Mile-High Century? Will the Oregon Coast Cycling Festival be run again this year?

Isn't Lincoln on the way to Roseville, down highway 65, south of Marysville?

Since we're talking century plans, may I suggest the Tour de Lincoln? A relatively new and much-overlooked metric century in the Spring, it takes off from Lincoln (just south of Marysville) and does two nice short hills and a great rolling stretch through foothills. Pretty terrain and good riding overall. Good food stops, low-key, friendly, with simple free dinner/lunch afterwards. I'll be there.

When I see it listed in a calendar of rides, I'll post the info. The website info is a bit odd, because it's listed not on a ride website but on the Lincoln town website, since the ride is put on by the community, not a local ride club.

Hate to be the voice of cold reality here, but vowing to ride your bike every day this year turns out to be a bad idea. The problem is, if you know you're always going to ride tomorrow, you can never do the hard training ride that fries you and leaves your legs begging for mercy the next day. In other words, it's better for you to extend yourself, then take a recovery day. Unless you want to limp around the block on the recovery day just to say you "rode." Same goes for vowing to rake up a huge number of miles, actually--you end up doing nothing but base riding. I prefer the specific singular goal--vow to do the Death Ride, for instance--something that will keep you riding and training hard but won't lock you into one sort of riding.
Hi Rodney. I only did 8 Century rides last year, but 10 sounds like a good idea for 2007. I would like to meet with you re: maintaining and upgrading the Yahoo Century part of our site. E-mail me or call on the old fashioned cell phone. Hope to hear from you soon. Ride on. Dave
Which brings up a good point - Any New Year's Resolutions for 2007 concerning cycling or cycling goals?? For instance, I think it was Dave Withrow last year who said he wanted to complete at least 10 centuries in 2006. Did you do it Dave??
Man, if I had to make a New Year's Resolution for 2007 it would be only one thing: Ride my bike everyday. I know....it's improbable. Which is why I like it - it's a challenge!

I need to dream that I'm going to be going somewhere new and beautiful every year. Last year I got to go to Tuscany. This year I'm in love with the idea of riding from Glacier National Park to Banff to Jasper. Bicycling Adventures runs a tour group that does it.

Leaving at 1:00pm on Sunday sounds far better than fighting this raw, dank cold weather at 8-9am.
I will sure try to make it over there. Asset Management building on Bruce Road?

Probably 2 to 3 hour ride - gets dark around 4ish, so we'll be back before then.
