For those of you riding the full Wildflower this Sunday: Be careful
when coming through Cherokee. There is some seriously rough road
about 200 yards after the Cherokee Museum. Not as bad as Humboldt was
the other day but you could flat if you hit it too fast. There are
some other rough spot but avoidable. I'm also hoping that the water
currently running across the road in various places won't be there by
Sunday. See you out there.

volunteers!
Hi all,
Is it really spring?! I’ll be home all weekend (yay!) for a change, ready
to do some riding! Only a week and a half till the wildflower… Speaking of
which, I’ll be organizing the last rest stop for the Flatflower, seeking
volunteers in the hours from 10am till 3pm (some or all). If you’re
interested, please email me at janinerood@...! I’m also organizing
a free ‘Wildflower Worker Ride’ with limited support (one or maybe two rest
stops) for the SUNDAY following the Wildflower (May 4), all are welcome.
Saturday’s ride (8am start): Cherokee and Table Mtn, 65 miles, pace D,
terrain 4
Sunday’s ride (9am start): Durham orchard ride, 30 miles, pace C, terrain 1

I want to take advantage of the beautiful weather and go
climb a hill tomorrow. Mellow pace. Neal or Centerville or even Cohasset? Anyone up
for it? Was thinking of 7am start from one-mile, but if someone wants to go
later I could be convinced!
Just wanted to let you know that Ed (Chico
Velo) has a plan in place to get this (and other road problems) fixed for the
Wildflower.

the road department. Maybe we should throw a couple
sheets of plywood over it the morning of the ride just so we can get over
it. Any other ideas are appreciated. Jeff

Honey Run has a "road closed" barricade at the point where the road narrows to one lane. I didnt ride past the barricade to check it out. Does anyone know if the road washed out?
take care Marc

Thanks for the heads up! While the county might not
pave it, perhaps they could fill it with road base.
If not, a yard of road base is $25 at Guy Rents and
includes use of their dump trailer. If it's placed
the day before the traffic should be sufficient to
compact the patch.

It also may be raining and I might wait it out. How's that for committing

be doing the 8am ride Sat or the 9am ride Sun. I’m going to try to get
out EARLY to get in some ride-time while she’s still sleeping. If anyone
wants to ride REALLY early, you can join Rob Bishop and I on Saturday, we’re
going to meet at 5:30am at One-Mile and ride for 2 hours or a bit more. On
Sunday I’m going to ride at 6:30am (really 5:30 except for the time-change)
as well – if you’re interested let me know and I’ll swing by
One-Mile. For those on a more sensible schedule, here are the rides I gave Ed
for the calendar:
Saturday’s ride (8am start): Centerville & Honey
Run, back via Clark Rd 55 miles pace D, terrain 3
Sunday’s ride (9am start): River
Rd, Keefer, Cohasset 30 mile pace C, terrain 1
Enjoy your weekend!
Janine
Terrain Rating
---------------------
1: Flat ride (example: River Road)
2: Some rolling hills (Keefer Road)
3: Moderate climbing (Neal Road)
4: Significant climbing (Centerville
AND Honey Run)
Pace Ratings
--------------------
You should be able to ride this pace comfortably for 30 minutes on a flat
road,:
A: 10-12 mph (ride as group)
B: 13-15 mph (frequent re-groups)
C: 16-18 mph (regular re-groups)
D: 19-21 mph (occasional re-groups)
E: 22-24 mph (possible re-groups)
F: 25+ mph
I would be leaving from one mile in my car at 7:30 if you want to carpool.

The total for all 3 climbs was 6850ft. I did not think to look at the top of each hill. I think from past rides I kinda remember that cohasset and forest ranch are both about 2000ft each. Not sure about honey run.

I should have gone for burritos with Marc in Paradise.
