We had a GREAT attendance tonight at the Tuesday night Airport Criterium, and I want to thank all of you for coming out to this one - fantastic to see so many folks out there giving this Criterium thing a shot! Thank you all! And we had a dozen spectators out there cheering the riders on during the race, so that was great to see too! Thank you all for coming out!
Okay, we had a total of 34 riders take part in the Criterium tonight - 13 in the Category "B" Race.......and 21 in the Category "A" Race. And the conditions tonight were pretty tough out there - it was warm, humid and there was definitely some smoke present in the air tonight.
The A race saw a breakaway take off early, lapping the field. Then, some of the same breakaway riders took off again. These riders included James Plummer, Mike Smith, David Albrecht and Kevin Speacht. Throughout the "A" race, we had 14 Prime Laps, with many different riders scoring Points on those Prime laps. In the end, it was Kevin Speacht attacking his breakaway companions on the last lap and soloing in for the win.......followed closely by David Albrecht and James Plummer.
The B race saw a strong field take part. After quite a few Primes, the heat started to take its toll on the riders. But in the end, it came down to a field sprint with Tom Embree taking the victory, followed by Kyle Hartel and Shawn Hughes.
It was great to see how fun everyone was having out there - even with the pain and suffering, y'all still looked like you were having a good time!! And, again, that's what it's all about - just a little Crit training on a summer night.
