.....Since Beltran filed for free agency, the Yankees, Mets, Phillies,
Mariners, Angels, Orioles and Cubs have inquired about him.



The Cubs were hoping to land Beltran, but they would have to trade
Sammy Sosa first. So far there are no takers for Sosa so that is keeping
the Cubs out of the Beltran running.

"We'd have to trade Sosa first, but that's doubtful right now," a top
Cubs front office official told the Houston Chronicle.

Beltran has made it clear he wants to play for a winner......
