Hello Everyone!
As the triathlon season winds down, the Chicago Triathlon Luna Chix would like to thank all of you who were able to come out and participate in some training sessions with us. We hope to grow our group next year in order to have bigger and better events!
But before we just "hang it up" for the winter, we'd like to invite all of you to participate in the RAYOR Adventure Race. The Luna Chix are happy to announce that 100% of your entry fees will be donated to the Breast Cancer Fund.
Because this YahooGroup does not support emailed attachments, you need to go to the YahooGroup website and download them, or, if you are interested, please just send an email requesting the documents to: chicagotri@....
Below are a set of commonly asked questions about this event. Keep the questions coming and please let us know if you would like to submit a team or are in need of a teammate!
Q: Men can participate in this event correct? Can it be two men to a team, two women to a team, etc?
A: Absolutely, this event is open to all blends of teams - men, women, co-ed, even young folks! Mix n match.
Q: What is an approximate amount of mileage covered?
A: Approximate mileage is as follows:
Biking - 14 miles on the bike, but is broken up a few times
Metro trek - 3 miles
Kayaking - 10 minutes (Maybe 600-1000 yds???)
Orienteering - 3-5 miles
Q: Can you provide more information about the course?
A: The mountain biking is done in a nearby forest preserve, so you travel a few streets to get to the entrance, then follow the map of the trails to find the specific checkpoints (maybe a clue or answer to keep track of until the end). There's only one or two large hills that you may need to walk the bike up. A trail/cross bike will also do.
Metro trek is either done on streets in nearby neighborhood or on nearby park district paved trail. Same concept - looking for checkpoints.
Kayak is one person suiting up in provided life jacket and paddling across small pond/lake to a clue in an overhanging tree, then return to shore. Other teammate then repeats, but to different spot in lake (may be farther).
Orienteering involves off the trail hiking in grassy/wooded area using a map and compass (may be able to figure out checkpoint from other nearby physical locations, like ponds, streets, trails, etc.).
Mystery event may include shooting a paintball gun at a target or trying to cross a parking lot on stilts, for example.
