Dear Friends,

As many of you know, it has been my great pleasure during the last year to be able to support my daughter Teagan and a cause about which I care deeply—Down syndrome awareness—through my involvement with GiGi’s Playhouse and the i have a voice project.

Teagan has been such a blessing to our family. She is a never-ending source of joy and love. Every day she amazes us. With her energy and intelligence, we know there is absolutely no limit to what she can do. When I look at Teagan, all I see is love and potential. And it thrills me to imagine what she can become.

Unfortunately, there are some who look at Teagan, and only see a diagnosis. They see limitations and focus on what she can’t do. It’s an attitude that causes individuals with Down syndrome to be prejudged, even ostracized. And it is still sadly pervasive. The need for education and awareness about the diagnosis is great. i have a voice is about meeting that need.

Currently, through a partnership with GiGi’s Playhouse and the photographer Thomas Balsamo, I am working to produce i have a voice the book—a collection of portraits and first person accounts from individuals with and families impacted by Down syndrome (including Teagan!). And with your support, our project could get funding through the American Express Members Project. The Members Project is an exciting initiative that brings people together to make a difference in the world. I ask only that you take a moment of your time to visit “i have a voice” Down syndrome awareness project  and nominate our project. You do not need to be an American Express member to nominate our project. Everyone is eligible. However, if you are not an American Express member, you will be asked to quickly set up a username and password before you can vote.

With your help, we can open the eyes of countless people worldwide to the boundless potential of people with Down syndrome.  We are simply providing a platform for them share their stories, in their words.

Thank you so much for your time and support. And please pass it on to everyone you know.

I think there are a few of us planning on a brick tonight, so if you're interested in a short run after the ride, please bring your running shoes!  Just 2 more weeks of these rides, so hope to see you out there!
