The City of Downers Grove is hosting the US Pro Criterium National Championships this weekend. This is a really fun bike race to watch as it draws the top professional and amateur riders from all over the country and beyond. The race course is on the roads in downtown Downers Grove. It's a 1-mile hourglass shaped course and the races do as many as 62 laps around. This makes it very spectator friendly. This is the National Championships, so the competition is fierce and there is lots of money on the line. And it's free to watch!
There are many races throughout the weekend including amateur and professional women. You can view the race schedule at http://www.dgcycling.com/ and click on the complete event schedule tab. On Saturday, the International Women's Race is at 5:10 pm and the Men's ProAM Challenge is right after at 6:10. These are both big races. But Sunday has the Women's Championship race at 10:00 am and the Men's Championship race at 3:00 pm.
The Downers Grove Bike Club will at the race selling t-shirts, water bottles, and bottled water. Stop by the booth and say hello (look for the Trek Bicycle Booth). They will also be giving away some lap premium prizes on Sunday. I'll be around both days - either at the booth or watching the racers. Maybe I'll see some of you there!
