Community event notice:

As part of the Charlotte Pride Week Celebration, former Army Sergeant Darren
Manzella,
the openly gay medic featured last December on the CBS News magazine 60 Minutes,
will visit Charlotte on Friday July 25th to speak at the Lesbian & Gay Community
Center about his experience serving under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell,"
his recent discharge
from the Army and his work with Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN).  In
recognition of Charlotte Pride, Sergeant Manzella will be joined by Former Air
Force
Sergeant David Hall, a litigant in the court case Cook v. Gates, which is
challenging
the constitutionality of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law. Friday,
July 25; Lesbian
& Gay Community Center at 820 Hamilton St.; 7:00pm refreshments and snacks,
7:30pm program.

  The SLDN is a national, non-profit legal services, watchdog and policy
organization
dedicated to ending discrimination against and harassment of military personnel
affected by "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and related forms of intolerance.
