The race is Sat. the 4th, someone must've been looking at the previous months
calendar.

> NEWS NOTES: It has been a while since the last edition of the Chalmette Track
Club newsletter. Why? It is simply my fault for not having enough time to keep
up with events. I can only hope to do better now that the finish line is in
sight for my new house in Arabi. The new house ought to be big enough to host a
club meeting at some point. Jennifer Gioia

> OLD BUT GOOD NEWS: Vice President Don Brinkman participated in the Tour for
the Cure and had this to say about the race and CTC participants, " Fred Lotz,
Steve Lotz, Kent Demara, Eve Kazik, Cookie Drapier, Jack Hayes...Our wives were
our support group. Charlene made the motel arrangements and coordinated with the
girls the parking passes, food, refreshments and anything else that was needed.
Shady was at the finish on Sunday at Southeastern University to welcome and
cheer us on as we finished. He was also seen having a finishers beer with the
above mentioned group." In November founding Chalmette Track Club member Ronnie
Herbert was spotted in a Parish paint store in preparation for his next home
project. The former vice president and club singlet vendor rebuilt his home in
Chalmette but has not quite gotten back in to running shape. Next project,
Ronnie----start a running group on the track! In December Liz and Fred Lots
hosted a CTC Christmas party at
> their beautiful home in Jefferson Parish. Quite a few members showed up to
"party-down" and watch a Saints' game in true CTC fashion In January work was
completed on Chalmette High School's track and stadium. The track is now a state
of the art facility. Gone are the days of choking on track dust (thanks, Buster
and Shady) and slow times. Also gone is the original plumbing work done by our
late but never forgotten CTC legend, Joe Dembrun. Unfortunately, the track is
not open to the public as of yet, but I am assured that the issued will be
resolved soon. I have been informed that someone will be hired to keep watch
over the facility as there can be no food or drink (except water) out on the
field (artificial turf) and the track (rubberized) . We are seeking permission
to host a CTC event on the new track, since that is where our club began, as
soon as the high school track season is over. On February 1st and 2nd, President
Phil Gioia broke the Mardi

in order, it is important to note that he did not finish last. Congratulations
again?

> Some Sad News: Chalmette Track Club recently lost an old friend and well-known
parish political figure, John Lane. Mr. Lane frequently helped CTC members
through race course and date issues, especially behind the scene. Mr. Lane, as
many of you may remember, operated Racket Ball South where the club occasionally
hosted a racket ball night for members. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr.
Lane's family and friends.
