Hi folks,
We are currently in Florida for most of January and would like to meet and ride with other recumbent riders. We ride Greenspeed GT3 trikes and a GTT tandem.
We are currently staying in Moore Haven FL for 2-3 weeks. We will leave that area and go to the Sarasota / Tampa area for 3-4 weeks. We will also be visiting Orlando area.
While travelling we are cycling (our passion) and visiting recumbent shops to show them our new line of recumbent-specific clothing (our business).

We are seeking the following information about:
1) opportunities to ride with other 'bents
2) tips on routes and bike paths in the areas that we are staying or that we can drive to in about 1-2 hours
3) names of recumbent stores that we should visit while in Florida (or other parts of the country as we head back to Canada in the spring)to tell them about REVERSE Gear
4) any cycling events where we might show riders our clothing line - REVERSE Gear
5) and also any tips for RVing or RV parks that we should consider.

If you can provide any information relevant to our trip, please contact judi at reversegearinc. com

Great time to be down there to bike/trike. Here are some ideas for you when you come down. I can only speak to the Sarasota/St Pete/Venice areas as that is where I have biked and done the most exploring.

Pinellas Trail, from St Pete to Tarpon Springs, 34 miles, www.pinellascounty. org/trailgd

Legacy Trail, from Sarasota to Venice, little over 10 miles, www.legacytrailfrie nds.org

Venice Waterway Park, south from Venice along their waterway, 10 miles, www.vabi.org/ vwp.htm

Most are either thru the Rails to Trails program or are affiliated in some way as converted rail road right of ways. Venice has a great ride along its waterway as part of their beautification program. All are great riding experiences, lots of scenery, stops and shops.

Enjoy!

Hi,
About the local ride trails, Pinellas County Has a very nice 33 mile rails to
trails called the Pinellas County Trail. Here is the web link:
http://www.pinellascounty.org/trailgd/ There is also a trail that runs along
side the veterans expressway that is 39 miles long and should be nice too, I
have not riden it yet though. Here are some links to it:
http://www.outdoortravels.com/biking_florida_upper_tampa_bay_trail.php
http://www.sptimes.com/News/013101/news_pf/TampaBay/Bike_trail_sets_new_s.shtml
There is a great bike shop in Seminole FL, Which is north of St. Petersburg and
South of Clearwater called Bicycle Outfitters. It is next to the Pinellas
Trail, too. They sell and service many recumbents and others (of course).
Here is there web site: http://bicycleoutfitters.net/
Hope that helps.

Thank you,
Three of us will be riding the Pinellas Trail tomorrow, Tuesday. Two starting at 8 from Tarpon Springs, and one, me, dropping in at Clearwater at 9. I sure hope it warms up.

I plan to ride the Lehigh Valley and maybe the Venice. I have been researching my proximity to the trailheads.

About 7-9 years ago my mother was in a nursing home in the north Tampa area. As I live in Chicagoland I would make an effort to stay with her or in the area two to three weeks at a time. To keep up my fitness I would roller blade or bike the trails mentioned below as they were being developed. I had them to myself and i did have to scout how to get to them. My niece lives within 3-5 miles of these trails and I sometimes stayed at her house, also.

How much of the Veterans is now completed? If it is 20+ I may make a day trip from Sarasota to ride it.

It goes up to Hwy 98 not too far from Weekie Wachee from Lutz Lake Fern in N
Tampa. North of Hwy 50 it has some nice climbs. Unlike the trails that goes
through the woods, that rascal is windy

Upon further research and speaking to a friend of mine we came to the realization that these trails are in effect connected and they are the ones of which I and you were referring to. To ride the total of all of these connected trails both ways my friend says you would have a ride of a hundred miles.

The Greenways & Trails guide provided me with the answers I needed regarding parking.

Thank you.

About 7-9 years ago my mother was in a nursing home in the north Tampa area. As
I live in Chicagoland I would make an effort to stay with her or in the area two
to three weeks at a time. To keep up my fitness I would roller blade or bike the
trails mentioned below as they were being developed. I had them to myself and i
did have to scout how to get to them. My niece lives within 3-5 miles of these
trails and I sometimes stayed at her house, also.

How much of the Veterans is now completed? If it is 20+ I may make a day trip
from Sarasota to ride it.

Thank you for this information. I am going to try and schedule it into my stay in Florida. Years ago when my mother was in a nursing facility in Tampa I used the beginning stretches of the V-trail for skating and biking. I will enjoy doing the entire trail now.

Hi,
About the local ride trails, Pinellas County Has a very nice 33 mile rails to trails called the Pinellas County Trail. Here is the web link: http://www.pinellas county.org/ trailgd/ There is also a trail that runs along side the veterans expressway that is 39 miles long and should be nice too, I have not riden it yet though. Here are some links to it:
http://www.outdoort ravels.com/ biking_florida_ upper_tampa_ bay_trail. php
http://www.sptimes. com/News/ 013101/news_ pf/TampaBay/ Bike_trail_ sets_new_ s.shtml
There is a great bike shop in Seminole FL, Which is north of St. Petersburg and South of Clearwater called Bicycle Outfitters. It is next to the Pinellas Trail, too. They sell and service many recumbents and others (of course). Here is there web site: http://bicycleoutfi tters.net/
Hope that helps.

The Dept of State of Fl Lists the Upper Tampa Bay Trail as 7.2 miles. This appears to be the same trail as the one I am referencing and most closely matches "Veterans Memorial" that you are referencing. If my assumptions are correct I would like to ride this trail again.
Would you have info as to its total length and where there might be public parking?

It goes up to Hwy 98 not too far from Weekie Wachee from Lutz Lake Fern in N Tampa. North of Hwy 50 it has some nice climbs. Unlike the trails that goes through the woods, that rascal is windy
and there's not much to see.

I wanted to introduce myself and company to your recumbent group seeking your
support and interest as a fellow recumbent enthusiast and recumbent business
owner. I retired after a 31 year sales career in sales-sales mgmt. with
Lanier/Ricoh Businees Products following a 2 year battle overcoming a
auto-immune condition called Myasthenia Gravis. It affects the bodies muscles
and I was confined to a electric wheelchair for about a year until outpatient
physical therapy rehab over a 10 month period brought me back to being able to
walk and ride recumbents. The exercise regiment done with a tadpole trike helped
me decide to open up a new business called Boomer Bents and Bikes, LLC. We offer
a complete line of recumbent 2-3 wheel models as well as parts/accessories. You
can see and learn more on our new website: www.boomerbentsandbikes.com

Let me know how I can serve, support and become an active participant with the
members in the area.

Thanks and enjoy this great heart healthy lifestyle and fellowship of bent
enthusiasts.

Hello,

If you are looking for an extremely long ride this is for you.  12 or 24 hours of riding.  Drafting, non drafting and RAAM qualifying.  Course is 1 - 100 mile loop then a 12 mile
loop until it gets dark.  At this point you ride on the Sebring race track until the 24 hours is over.

The weekend goes pretty much like arrive Friday and meet up with some riders and eat dinner.  Go to bed early to make the 6:30 am start.  Ride, Ride, Ride. Awards ceremony is right after 24hour race has finished.   If you are not riding there are a bunch of nice people to hang out with, and would probably even appreciate helping out some of the teams, especially those doing the 24hrs.

William

Arecent post asked about the upper tampa bay trail. It is currently 7.5 miles
from the memorial trail head to petersen park. This is a beautiful, well
maintained trail with lots of access and facilties along the way, but you feel
like it's a ride in the country most of the way. Trail link has good maps and
info. Enjoy.

Some of us decided on a last minute ride that will leave the Withlacoochie
trailhead off Hwy 50 at 8 AM go south and climb the hills on low/no traffic
roads. Length is a little over 50 miles. Last ten miles are on the trail.
There's a bailbout that would make it about 35 miles.

Speed will not be blazing fast. I suspect the average will be below 15 MPH.
Who's got any substancial miles in for 2010 anyway?

The cue sheet Ridge Manor is in the files section of the group. There is a lot
of 50-75 foot climbs, so be ready for that if you come.

I just saw this post Sunday evening. I am visiting in Sarasota. I am capable of doing this length at this pace. I do need more lead time and a specific start point. (lat., long).

Is anybody from the Sarasota area? I have recently ridden the Pinnellas trail from St. Petersburg to Clearwater. And i have also ridden the Legacy trail.
