Can we "pine" for the Elizabethan poets? How about the French
Impressionist painters? The singer songwriters of the 60's?
It's just a fact of life, that there are apex's in many areas of art,
science, yes and even sports.
You have a point that the athleticism and strength of today's players,
across the board, is better than it was twenty years ago, but there is
more to this game than raw talent.
When these players can match those skills and athletic gifts, with
full respect for the nuances of the game and the teamwork, the older
Celtic units were examples of, then we might get back to the
championship level we all yearn for.
If I want to watch athleticism, I can turn on the gymnastic shows. If
I want selfishness, petulance and immature emotional outbursts, I can
tune in a soap opera.
