The drama behind Payton's show/no-show status bothers me more than a little. To put the obvious control of a franchise's season in the hands of the mercurial (Topaz?) point guard makes so little sense, and the fact that there's only West and Banks here in camp suggests that it's a made-for-FSNE story that will herald the arrival of Payton.
Hey, he's not perfect, but without him there's a huge hole. Delonte has not shown that he can lead, and Banks has shown that he cannot. Danny wouldn't let this situation remain if he thought the guy wouldn't show. Of course not. But, who needs this suspense?
As to Davis, I can see that he met O'Brien, knew the guy had no clue on how to use an athlete, and tried to keep quiet and fit in while hearing Danny tell him that there would be changes. When Carroll took over, he just played out the string. He's not running this team, but he has certain goals about Playing Time and Stats, so I doubt he'll fight Doc at all.
Fun and games for the boys. Just can't imagine them hangin' in VT.
