EASTERN MOUNTAIN SPORTS WINS THE 2007 BERRYMAN ADVENTURE!
Van Buren, MO - Eastern Mountain Sports wins the 2007 Berryman Adventure,
held in the rugged hills of the Ozarks near Van Buren, Missouri. Eastern
Mountain Sports appears to be in top racing form heading into the GoLite
USARA Adventure Racing National Championships in November, held about 2
hours North of Van Buren in Potosi, Missouri.
The 4-Person co-ed team out of the Northeastern U.S., consisting of Jennifer
Shultis, Dave Lamb, Chad Denning and Dmitry Drozdov, were at the top of
their game during the Berryman Adventure, held September 29-30, and raced
almost flawlessly for the duration of the race. They completed the 120+
mile course in just less than 25 hours, at 24 hours and 59 minutes.
Team WEDALI, consisting of Scott Lund, Justin Bakken, Molly Moilanen and
Jason Nielsen, were on the tails of Eastern Mountain Sports for the majority
of the race, and crossed the finish line in second place, less than an hour
behind Eastern Mountain Sports. Eastern Mountain Sports said they really
had to push themselves to stay ahead of WEDALI during the race, and had many
great things to say about the team from Minnesota and Iowa afterwards.
About an hour after WEDALI came across the finish line, Springfield Bike
Company came in to secure third place, respectively. Like the other two
teams, Springfield Bike Co., consisting of Scott Davis, Ryan Meschke, Anna
Assenmacher and Scott Rogers, had a great race and worked hard for their
great finish. They had the fastest split time for the final biking leg of
the top three teams, but were unable to make up enough ground to overtake
Eastern Mountain Sports and WEDALI.
David Marks and Windy Marks, out of Phoenix, AZ, won the top honors in the
2-Person 36-Hour division. They came in 5th Place Overall with a racing
time of 29:38. Steeve Pomerleau and Kurt Searvogel of the team Ozark
Extreme - GT, both out of Arkansas, finished second in the 2-Person division
with a time of 33:09.
The Berryman Adventure also featured a 12-Hour course with over 120 racers
participating. 12-Hour racers thought they had it much easier than 36-Hour
racers until they realized that they had to bike up just about every hill in
a 50 mile area! Congratulations to Ken DeBeer and Vicki Vojak of the team
Two Bad for crossing the finish line in first place, with a racing time of 8
hours and 54 minutes. The team Directionally Challenged, consisting of Kyle
Monroe and Jarod Milam, crossed the finish line in second place with a time
of 9:45, barely edging the 3rd place teams. This was Kyle and Jarod's first
adventure race, and I'm sure we will be seeing much more of these two in the
future! The two teams Performance Physical Therapy 1 and Performance
Therapy crossed the finish line together in a time of 9:48, only a few
minutes after the second place team.
The 2007 Berryman Adventure - Presented by Columbia Sportswear, lived up to
its reputation as "a real ass kicker" of a race. Although teams said they
loved the course, most of them said that it was very, very difficult.
Congratulations to all the teams that came and attempted the grueling 7th
running of the Midwest's premier adventure race!

Last Minute Adventure!
Seems like adventure racers are last minute people by nature. We often
don't get our course maps until the start whistle blows. We may not know
which way we'll go until we're standing at the trail intersection. And
we typically don't register for a race until the last two weeks before
the registration deadline.
Well, you're down to the last minute again. There are only 10 days left
to register for the 2007 Gold Nugget Adventure Race! This year's course
features a modified rogaine format for all three course lengths: 4, 8
and 12 hours. The courses will include new territory that hasn't been
covered in the last two Bushwhack Adventures' races. There will be a
true orienteering section in each course, as well as numerous paddling
checkpoints, mountainous bike sections, and adrenaline pumping special
challenges. You'll need to kick yourself if you miss this one.

race? The Bed and Bike Inn offers a unique lodging alternative. They are
sponsoring the race too. Check out their website for more information:

team from outside of Costa Rica other international teams are now
more encouraged that they can compete in the Ticos own arena. 2007
also saw a number of international teams bringing family and friends
as support. We organized a variety of programs for those who wanted
to closely follow the race, some who wanted to volunteer to help
with the race organization and a few who wanted to use the time to
explore other areas of the country and meet up with the teams at the
Finish Line.
If you have seen or follow our Coast to Coast Challenge and have

2007 San Francisco Night and Day Challenge in 13 hours and 28 minutes from some
very tough competition. Over 50 teams finished the event in what ended up
as a very tight race. Follow the link below to read the story of the race
around the City.
Adventure Racing in Costa Rica is alive and kicking!
In March this year, Team Bones became the first non-Tico (Costa Rican)
team to win the Coast to Coast Challenge. The Tico teams want the
title back and have begun their training for next year's race,
scheduled for April 2008.
Racing in Costa Rica is challenging for even the most experienced of
racers and so why not use one of our other races as a training platform?
Coast to Coast Adventures organizes a variety of Races during the year
aside from our Coast to Coast Challenge. They are in different places
around the country and are shorter than the Challenge.
Come and join us for one of our weekend races and perhaps take a few
extra days to acclimatize with one of our International Packages. The
beautiful Pacuare Valley plays host to The Pacuare Adventure Race on
4th and 5th of August. It has all the elements of a tough Race but
with PRO and SPORT categories, it caters for racers with a variety of
experience. Race registration is included in the packages. For more
information on this Race and the packages available for international
racers, click on the link:

A little later in the year, and a great way to escape from the winter
weather in the northern hemisphere, is the 24 Hours of Costa Rica
which is a unique opportunity to race in the shadow of the majestic
Arenal Volcano. Once again the field is broad to accommodate PRO and
SPORT category racers and we offer packages for international racers
to spend a little more time in Costa Rica to prepare beforehand and
rest after the race. Race registration is included in the packages.
Go to the link for further information on the Race and the packages:

If your team is limited on time, then just join us for the race itself.
If you are unsure of which category your team should enter or if you
just want to chat with someone about any of our races, Pablo Brenes is
the man! pablo@...
We look forward to hearing from you and to welcoming you here in Costa
Rica at one of these races. If you are saving yourselves for The
Coast to Coast Challenge 2008, please let us know as soon as you can
as route planning will start soon and from then we will keep
interested teams updated.

Once again we have successfully crossed Costa Rica from coast to
coast in our 7th Edition of the CtoC Challenge 2007. If you missed

it at http://www.sleepmonsters.com/racereport.php. If you want to

A great challenge for all teams, long and tough sections crossing
the jungle, rivers, passing by Costa Rican communities, were we all
found the hospitality and warm that identifies our people. And for
the first time an international team wins the competition.
Congratulations Team Bones!

Bonk Hard Racing, LLC Presents the 3 Modes of Off-Road
Kansas City, MO - Bonk Hard Racing, LLC, organizers of adventurous, outdoor
pursuits, is very excited to announce the 3 Modes of Off-Road. Based off of
the popular Jay Challenge, the 3 Modes of Off-Road will utilize the same
format with paddling, mountain biking and trail running for individuals as
well as teams.
Held in the beautiful and challenging terrain of the Ouachita National
Forest in Arkansas on May 18-20th, the 3 Modes of Off-Road will take racers
on a 34-mile paddle on Lake Ouachita on Friday, May 18th. Lake Ouachita,
just 67 miles southwest of Little Rock and 15 miles Northeast of the popular
Hot Springs, AR, is nestled in the mountains of the Ouachita National
Forest, where no homes are allowed, and has over 1000 miles of shoreline and
over 200 islands. Racers will paddle 34 miles (19 miles for the short
course) on the beautiful Lake Ouachita on Friday, May 18th.
Saturday, May 19th will be the mountain biking section of the 3 Modes of
Off-Road. If you have never ridden the famous Womble Trail in Arkansas,
then you are in for a real treat! This 37 mile singletrack trail, which
connects to the 192 mile Ouachita Trail, is one of the most popular trails
in Arkansas, and all of the Midwest. Short segments of the trail meander
along bluffs of the Ouachita River providing breathtaking views. The
majority of the mountain biking section will be on this beautiful trail, and
will take mountain bikers on an approximate 65-mile ride (about 30 miles for
the short course). The biking section of the race will be beautiful and
challenging, and you will definitely not want to miss it!
On Sunday, May 20th, 3 Modes of Off-Road racers will trail run. Again
utilizing the Womble Trail and the adjoining trails, long course racers will
run the trail marathon while short course racers will run a half-marathon.
If you think the Womble Trail is fun to bike on, it is just as enjoyable to
run on!
Even though the 3 Modes Champion goes to the racer with the fastest time of
the three races combined for the long course, you don't have to do all three
races if you don't want to. Racers will be allowed to register for each leg
individually, both long and short course, if you prefer.
Do you know a strong paddler, strong mountain biker and a strong runner?
Combine forces and race in the Team division!
There are many options for racers at the 3 Modes of Off-Road, and one thing
is for sure, you will not want to miss the first running of this race in one
of the most beautiful, and challenging, areas in the Midwest! Train hard if
you're coming to do the Long Course, because it will test the will and
endurance of any endurance athlete! If you're interested in racing the 3
Modes of Off-Road, early registration ends on April 6th!
For more information on the 3 Modes of Off-Road, or to register, please

Equipping Adventure Racers to Excel
www.arequip.com
It's a very exciting weekend in adventure racing this weekend! The
Checkpoint Zero Adventure Race is taking place in Helen, GA, Gravity Play is
hosting the Moab Adventure Xstream Adventure Race, racers are starting to
arrive at the Baja Travesia and Bonk Hard Racing is hosting the Sunflower
24-Hour in Lawrence, KS. When it's all said and done, close to a 1000
adventure racers from all over will be participating in these races!
The Sunflower 24-Hour, hosted by Bonk Hard Racing, LLC, is being held in
Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday and Sunday. Over 120 racers from 14 different
states across the U.S. are set and making their way to Lawrence on Friday,
March 23rd to take on the 90 mile course. While the students at Kansas
University, based in Lawrence, are invading sun-filled beaches on Spring
Break, these racers are invading the rain-soaked town that hosts the Sweet
16 KU Jayhawks.
Racers are coming to Lawrence expecting a great race course, and that is
exactly what Bonk Hard Racing plans to give them. Ninety miles worth of
river paddling, lake paddling, single track mountain biking, urban and
backwoods orienteering, rappelling (it's not easy finding a rappel in Kansas
:), a 275-foot Tyrolean Traverse, plenty of mud and much more. Bonk Hard
Racing is very excited about this race course and the competition that is
coming into this race. High powered teams from across the Midwest and beyond
are coming to claim the cash payout and over $2500 prize purse, as well as
qualify for the USARA Adventure Racing National Championships.
The Sunflower 24-Hour is also a part of the Checkpoint Tracker National
Point Series, in which teams from across the U.S. are competing against each
other at 11 different 24-Hour (or more) races throughout the year, including
two expedition races. To find out more about the Checkpoint Tracker National
Point Series, please visit:
http://www.checkpointtracker.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=app.series
If you would like to follow the action live at the Sunflower 24-Hour, and
see which team claims the title, you can view the action on the Checkpoint
Tracker site on Saturday, March 24th at
http://www.checkpointtracker.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=app.showDashboard&even
tID=108
We'll see you then, and good luck to everyone racing!
