10% discount to any team that doesn’t finish Primal Quest!

Durango, CO – MAY 9th, 2006

Gravity Play Sports will again host the 3rd Annual Xstream Expedition Race in the magnificent Moab, Utah area in early October.  The 250-300 mile expedition race is the most affordable expedition race of its caliber at only $395 per person.  With 3+ days of new, nonstop adventures including rappels off of natural arches, trekking in the magnificent La Sal Mountain Range, and adventurous desert terrain for the mountain biking and kayaking sections, this mid-length expedition race is extraordinary! With the Aspens in full color and temperatures averaging 75 degrees in early October you will not find a better time to race in Moab! Over $10,000.00 in cash prizes are up for grabs.

The Moab area is an ideal place for a challenging expedition length adventure race given its rugged terrain, multi-sport options, world class mountain biking and natural beauty. Nestled in the beautiful Castleton Valley, Red Cliffs Adventure Lodge again serves as an ideal start & finish location for the 2006 Xstream Expedition race. The resort’s lush and expansive grounds make it a perfect place for a congregation of adventure racers and support staff.

Gravity Play Sports is excited to have Primal Quest and the television exposure that comes with such a large event highlight the adventure racing opportunities that teams racing in the Xstream Expedition have experienced in years past.  With Primal Quest coming to the Moab area during the summer, adventure racers looking to experience the magnificent terrain and challenges featured in this year’s Primal Quest can compete in the Xstream Expedition Race in the fall. Any teams that missed out on gaining an entry into PQ can still sign up for the Xstream Expedition Race. Early registration is open until July 15th. Additionally, any team that doesn’t complete Primal Quest will be eligible for a 10% discount in the 2006 Xstream Expedition Race. Call for details.

New for this year will be the unsupported option for the Xstream Expedition. See the website for details. The event will also be featuring the Checkpoint Tracker software so fans and family members at home can watch the race unfold on their computers and even get updates sent to their cell phones or pagers about their Team.

Sponsors of the 2006 Xstream Expedition Race include:  AIRE, DEAN Bikes, Zorrel.com, Checkpointzero.com, Hammer Nutrition, Moab Area Travel Council, Red Cliffs Adventure Lodge, and Inside Outside Magazine.

STW AR entry fees go up after April 20th (see s-t-w.org to
register). We also have some people trying to develop or start
their team. Join a team!!!

Teammates Needed

My teammate Matt Lindner and I (Team Jabberwocky) need a third – we
are doing the elite race again this year. I would classify us as an
average to above average team that likes to race hard and expects to
finish the race within the allotted time, probably in the middle of
the pack.
Know of anyone? If possible, a good navigator would be a plus!!!!
Thanks,
Clay Driggers [CDriggers@...]

I'm interested in doing the sport division adventure race in May at
Baker Creek State Park but have been unsuccessful in raising a
team. I would be interested in joining a team if there is one that
is in need of a teammate. I live in Columbia, SC and I've done
about four previous adventure races and consider myself middle of
the pack, not the fastest but not the slowest. My three goals are
to not get hurt, finish the race, and finish the race before the
awards ceremony :) Single gender or co-ed doesn't matter to me. If
you know of a team looking for a teammate for which I would be
suitable, please let me know. Thanks.
  Perry Simpson [psimpson@...]

Elite: I just heard from our friend. He cannot race. So, Meg and I
are actively looking for a competitive teammate to fill out our
team. Nav experience is not necessary. If you know of anyone,
could you pass my name on? I appreciate it. Hopefully I will see
you on May 6 (with a complete team). Thanks.
Jeremy Weis [jeremy_weis@...]

Elite: We'd like to find a third wheel for our team....we don't plan
on winning but we are definitely motivated and wanna finish the race
competitively (not last). We (male & female) are looking to enjoy
the race, but not in a type "A" personality way. This race is in
preparation for another one in Oct more along the lines of the elite
class but not as long. Don't care if we have a male or female for
the third person as long as they can laugh, take sarcasms and push
themselves but not at the exclusion of everything else. Cheyenne _9

Thanks Bill

The Florida Coast to Coast 2006 is two months away!  The three day non-stop adventure race will be held during Memorial Day weekend, May 26-29th and will take racers thru new territory via the central part of the state. Competitors will kayak, bike, run, trek, and navigate 250+ miles across the sunshine state.  This year, we are introducing two additional categories, a relay/substitute category for those who haven't quite built up to a multi-day race or prefer a relay format, and a solo category for those who want to rely on their own skills to get across the finish line. The FC2C is also a great opportunity to test your team?s ability to compete in the heat in preparation for other big races in hot climates.  For more information, please visit our website at

This is a reminder for all teams interested in the Mighty MO Expedition that the regular registration period ends on March 17th.  The Mighty MO Expedition will take co-ed teams of four through some of the most beautiful and rugged terrain in the Midwest.  Teams will paddle on crystal-clear Missouri rivers, bike on miles of single-track trails, cross land and rivers by means of a zip line, rappel and traverse and participate in a fixed high ropes challenge!

The Mighty MO Expedition will be a USARA sanctioned event, and will be a regional qualifier for the GoLite USARA Adventure Racing National Championships held in Southern California.  This means the top three teams at the Mighty MO Expedition will qualify to race in the National Championships on November 3-4, and the top team will receive money towards their entry fee into the race.

Whether your team is looking to race the 2006 Primal Quest for free, to have a great training race for the Primal Quest, or just to set out on an expedition-length adventure race for a good time and adventure, you will not want to miss the Mighty MO Expedition.  The winning team of the Mighty MO Expedition will receive free entry into this year’s Primal Quest, or if you are already registered for the Primal Quest, you may sell the entry if you prefer.  Whatever your reason, join us on May 4-7 for an adventure that will take you over 230 miles through the Ozark Mountains in Missouri.

The Navigation Clinic is this weekend (March 11th) at Baker Creek
State Park, South Carolina. Go to http://www.s-t-
w.org/RaceNavClinic.htm for more details.

We recommend that all racers use the Brunton 8096 Adventure Racing
Compass. It will be the compass that we use to teach the clinic and
the compass we recommend to all racers.

The date has been changed for the Sport Race – it will start
Saturday morning. Check http://www.s-t-w.org/Adventure%20Race.htm
periodically for updates.

We hope to collect even more food this year at the race food drive.
For every 3 cans of food you bring, you'll receive a raffle ticket.
Merrell has donated a certificate for a pair of shoes and Brunton
has donated binoculars. One item will be raffled at both the Sport
and Elite awards ceremony. Bring lots of food to help out those in
need (and increase your chances to win).

Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions – bill@s-t-

Thanks again for your support of Save the World, Inc.

STW to Brazil in 2008: Save the World (STW), Inc is planning to
distribute 200 wheelchairs and other medical supplies in Sao Paulo,
Brazil in early 2008. This will be the first trip for STW into
Brazil and as a result will involve higher expenses. We estimate
this trip will cost $60,000. If you are inclined to donate to the
organization, there will be an opportunity to do so at the race or

CSM is proud to announce Subaru of America as the presenting sponsor of the 7th Annual Cal Eco Adventure Series and are very happy to continue our 4th year partnership with Subaru. We are looking forward to working with its affiliate programs such as Leave No Trace, Gary Fisher Bikes and IMBA to name a few.

Happy New Year!

I'm just recently back from working medical support for Hurricane
Katrina Relief. Due to this we're a little behind on 2006 Save the
World Adventure Race (STWAR) planning, but we'll be caught up soon.
The purpose of this email is to of course wish you a Happy Holiday
Season and give out the race details.

Here are a few reasons to race the 5th annual STWAR. The staff puts
their heart and soul into making it a great race. The 2005 race
provided over 500 cans of food to the local food bank and financial
support to assist the distribution and fitting of 200 wheelchairs in
Africa. It also allowed us to buy a commercial grade saw for John
de la Howe School for at risk youth for them to use in their
Wilderness Outreach Program (currently building a log cabin).

Race - When: May 6th and 7th

Where: Baker Creek State Park, South Carolina

Divisions: Both Elite (20-24 hour) and Sport (5-8 hour) three person
male, female, and co-ed teams. Teams of two or four can race
unofficially. Four person teams will have to pay an additional canoe
cost as two canoes are necessary.

******************SIGN UP NOW TO SAVE! ************************

Cost: Elite - $320, early $210 (before 2/1/06), $270 (before
4/20/06), Sport - $230, early $150 (before 2/1/06), $180 (before
4/20/06) for three person team (co-ed or single gender). There is a
service charge assessed if registering online (see www.s-t-w.org to
register by mail without a fee). We assess a late fee of $50 several
weeks prior to the race to encourage you to signup early. We have
tried to keep our entry fee low. We encourage racers to make
additional tax deductible donations to the organization if so
inclined. Thanks! Donation link:
http://www.active.com/donations/campaign_public.cfm?key=SaveTheWorld

You can also donate directly to STW and ensure 100% of your donation
goes to the organization (no fees from active.com). Makes checks
payable to Save the World and send them to Save the World (STW),
9921B Saratoga Road, Fort Drum, NY 13603.

Race Clinic: March 11th and 12th @ Baker Creek State Park. Every
year we hold a navigation clinic. This year we are hoping to expand
it to an Adventure Race Clinic with an emphasis on navigation. This
clinic is free to registered racers. If you just want to attend the
clinic, the cost is $25 per person.

See http://www.s-t-w.org to register by mail (no fee).

See http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1237254 to
register online (additional fee paid to active.com)

The Coast to Coast Challenge – Costa Rica Update

At two months before the start of the 6th annual Coast to Coast
Challenge, the excitement is starting to build. At the moment we have
a field of 8 local teams and 5 international teams, we are also
waiting for some more confirmations. So, there is plenty of room left
for any team that would be interested in escaping the winter for a 6
day expedition race in tropical Costa Rica. More info on the race
can be found at the following link:

http://www.adventureracingcostarica.com/ctoc.html

The route design team is working on the route and is excited to see
how racers will fare. They are keeping the route top secret as every
year, but we know that we will start on the Caribbean site of the
country.

It will be approximately 500 km in length, definitely challenging but
at the same time accessible for the less experienced. Teams will
travel through tropical rainforest, cloud forest, farmland, and
typical Costa Rican communities.

The official race info will be sent out to registered teams one month
before the race.

There are racers that are looking for team mates so if you don't have
a team but would like to race let us know.
Happy New Year!

EXOTIC APPEAL ATTRACTS INTERNATIONAL CONTINGENT TO COSTA RICA FOR
WORLD'S EXPEDITION RUN
Event Appeals to Competitors and Guests Around the World for
Cultural Experience and to Test Their Endurance in January 2006

Santa Monica, CA - Endurance runners and adventure seekers from
around the world are signing up for the World's Expedition Run in
Costa Rica slated for Jan. 20-30, 2006. Registrants from the United
States, Canada, United Kingdom, Morocco, Latvia, Malaysia and Costa
Rica are among those signed on for The Coastal Challenge.

"Costa Rica's beaches and jungles are unique to the world, and its
landscape and culture attract people from around the globe," said
race director Tim Holmstrom. "The international aspect of this event
isn't limited to the location; but the competitors and guests
themselves bring diverse backgrounds, languages and customs that
will be shared during the race and around the camps each night.
We've seen a great response from over four continents and these
numbers continue to grow as the event draws near."

Set on the west coast of Costa Rica, Jan. 20-30, 2006, The Coastal
Challenge (www.thecoastalchallenge.com) is the world's
only "Expedition Run,"™ releasing runners over 250 kilometers of
exotic and wild Costa Rican coastline. Competitors will convene in
San Jose, Costa Rica, and will be transported from there to the race
start and followed throughout the event by the roving caravan.

For seven days, runners embrace the spirit of adventure, discovery
and camaraderie within a long distance running competition while
navigating beaches, rock outcroppings, wide river crossings,
pristine coastal rainforests and highland mountain ranges. It is an
expedition run of epic proportions, equally defined by introducing
competitors to the hospitality of the local Tica culture with
several evenings of music and fiesta at encampments on or near the
beach.

Registration and more information for The Coastal Challenge are
available at www.thecoastalchallenge.com

The race welcomes individual, team and relay runners, while
Adventure Packages have been created for guests
http://www.thecoastalchallenge.com/2006/PR09262005.htm to partake in
the culture and coastal adventures throughout the event.
