XPD - EXPEDITION TO A WONDER OF THE NATURAL WORLD
In a much anticipated announcement, Geocentric Adventure Racing has
released plans to hold the third edition of the XPD Expedition Race
on the Whitsunday Coast, Australia. Race Director Craig Bycroft
said "Competitors will travel through reef, rainforest and outback
in this diverse expedition race. They will experience the majestic
Whitsunday Islands, lush highland rainforests and the harsh
Queensland outback." Dates have been set for next year, the 20-31
August 2007.
Up to 60 teams of four athletes will travel from Australia and
overseas to embark on this expedition. They will be unsupported
over their 700+km journey as they race day and night on a course
involving stages of trekking, mountain biking, kayaking, sailing and
snorkeling. Team members must stay together for the entire
expedition, if one pulls out they all pull out. It will be "as much
an expedition as a race".
When asked why the Whitsundays was chosen as a location for the 3rd
Edition of XPD, Craig said "We wanted an inspiring location that
said `must do' to both Australian and international competitors".
Craig also said that "We also wanted to give teams a diverse
challenge and experience, from racing through the remote and hostile
outback, to a world renowned island holiday destination as well as
seeing one of the seven wonders of the natural world, the Great
Barrier Reef".
The Adventure Racing World Series is an international circuit of
premiere adventure races representing 7 countries creating a 12
month calendar of professional events around the world. As a member
of the AR World Series, XPD is a qualifying event for the Adventure
Race World Championship. The last edition of XPD attracted 172 of
the sports best athletes from Australia, New Zealand, USA,
Singapore, South Africa, China and Oman.
