Adventure Racers Return to Purgatory

The 5th Annual AdventureXstream Adventure Race Series returns to Durango, Colorado on June 11, 2005 with both 12 & 24 Hour course options. Competitors at the Durango AdventureXstream Adventure Race will traverse across a 60-mile or 100-mile course testing their skills in trail running, mountain biking, kayaking and a magnificent Tyrolean traverse set amongst challenging San Juan Mountains terrain.

Nestled into the heart of the Southwest, and less than a 6 hour drive from Colorado's front range, Durango is home to some of the world's best single track mountain biking and outdoor recreation. With the dynamic Animas River and magnificent Forest Service alpine country scattered across its expanse, Durango is one of the West's best places to mountain bike, hike and paddle. Along with its natural beauty, this return venue offers one of the world's most exciting adventure racing courses, including world class single track mountain biking.

Durango Mountain Resort, formerly known as Purgatory Ski Area will again host this year's adventure race, offering up world class ski terrain as part of the trekking and navigation sections.

The Durango AdventureXstream adventure race is currently over 50% full. So, get your team together soon!

The AdventureXstream series then continues in Breckenridge, CO, 7/23 (12 & 24 Hour Races); Vail, CO on 9/10 (12 Hour Race). The series finale, Xstream Expedition, will be held in Moab, UT on October 6-10th (250-300 mile course). The 3rd Annual Durango MTB 100 will be held 8/6 at Durango Mountain Resort. For those new to adventure racing, Gravity Play Sports also offers Adventure Racing Retreats, Clinics and online training programs.

Team spots for the Expedition race will be given out to top finishers in the 2 & 4-person coed categories during the series. In addition, more than $30,000 in cash & prizes is up for grabs throughout the series. Entry fee for each AdventureXstream Adventure 12 Hour Race is $175 per person and 24 Hour Race is $250 and includes AIRE Tomcat tandem kayaks for each 2 & 4-person team. All participants also receive a free pair of SmartWool Adrenaline socks.
