The Coastal Challenge: Back in a Week
A new option to accommodate the busy life

Santa Monica, Calif. (July 8, 2004) – The Coastal Challenge, an expedition running adventure slated for January of 2005 in Costa Rica, announced today a new feature designed to make the event even more accessible to outdoor enthusiasts. As a result of unprecedented response from working athletes who wish to participate in this most unique event, organizers have designed a 5-day "Excursion Expedition Option" that will accommodate people who can only afford to take a week out of their busy schedules.

Now, in addition to the full 7-day Stage event that will take place January 16-23, 2005 and offer a $20,000 prize purse, this new Excursion Expedition will conclude on January 20, 2005 in Sierpe, Costa Rica. "We received a lot of interest from runners who wanted to join us in our event, but simply couldn't take that much time away from their busy lives," said Race Director Tim Holmstrom. "We were happy to add this shorter option, to make the event accessible to even more runners."

Those who select the 5 Day Excursion will no longer be in the running for prize money. "They will still have the same great opportunity to see the spectacular Costa Rican coastline course and enjoy what The Coastal Challenge has to offer in terms of exotic terrain and an authentic expedition experience,” said Holmstrom, adding with a laugh “The Excursion option will allow racers to get their feet wet and get back to the office before anyone realizes that they ever left!”

After completing 5 days and 5 legs of the course - including the highly anticipated day three canopy walk section, organizers will transport the “Excursion” group a short distance from Sierpe back to San Jose and a comfortable flight home.

"As an organization, we will continue to strive to accommodate the many needs and the busy lives of our competitors in an attempt to allow them to enjoy what Costa Rica and the Coastal Challenge have to offer," said Holmstrom. Due to the similar logistical demands of this option, however, the pricing will be stay at a low $1250 USD for those that wish to participate in the Excursion Expedition Run.
