Description

Car: Cup: Number 99 Ford BGN: Number 60 Ford
Team: Roush Racing
Sponsor: Cup: Scotts / Office Depot / AAA
BGN: Charter Communications

Birthdate: August 15, 1979
Rookie Season: Started 14 NEXTEL Cup races in 2004 to lose his rookie status. Best finish 3rd in Atlanta.
Career Highlights: 2003 - First Truck win (Kentucky)
2003 - Truck series Rookie of the Year

2005 - First Busch Win (Atlanta)

2005 - First Cup Win (Atlanta)

Roush Racing's Future: Carl Edwards came up through USAC pavement racing and the Baby-Grand series from his roots at Capital Speedway in Missouri.
After starting 7 truck series races in 2002 he ran the full truck series schedule in 2003 and won three races on his way to winning the Craftsman Truck series Rookie Of The Year title.

2004 found three more truck series wins and a fourth place points finish. But more importantly he was named as the heir-apparent to Mark Martin's #6 ride in the NEXTEL Cup series. However, when Jeff Burton accepted a ride with Richard Childress in the middle of 2004 Jack Roush picked Carl Edwards to fill that seat instead of the #6.

Carl ran 13 NEXTEL Cup series races in 2004 with a best finish of third. This partial season ruined Carl's chances to ever win the NEXTEL Cup Rookie of the Year honors, but Carls doesn't seem to mind.

In 2005 Carl is racing both the full Busch series schedule and the full NEXTEL Cup series schedules. In March, Carl found success in both series during the same weekend when he won both the Busch and NEXTEL Cup races in Atlanta.

Carl Edwards has massive potential. He could easily win the Busch series title and the Busch Rookie honors in 2005 as well as put together a serious challenge for the NEXTEL Cup title. Carl has already proven that he has the skills, with just a little bit of luck he could easily be the next Roush Racing superstar.
