doubles season is almost here!   Message List

okay, doubles season is already here but tourney season in Raleigh officially starts this week-end!

we'll be kicking off the year here in Raleigh this week-end with a King & Queen grass tourney and a Juniors only sand event this Saturday at Jaycee Park and grass Reverse Co-ed on Sunday at Baileywick Road Park.

If you've played before, you can skip this part (this explains the formats we're offering):

- The King & Queen tourney is an every player for themselves format that's a blast! It's a co-ed round robin where you play with and against everyone in your pool and keep your point total with the highest scoring players advancing.  You don't have to have a partner to sign up but we encourage the guys to, seems like we always have more guys than girls signed up. This is also a great way to meet new people. Check it out, I bet you'll get hooked!

- Last season was the first time we'd offered Juniors only events and they were a blast!  It's a great way to enjoy the day and work on your volleyball skills at the same time. We're planning to offer 3 divisions again at each tourney, that will kind of depend on the turnout though.

- The Reverse co-ed is also a blast, especially for the ladies 'cause you're the ones that get to do most of the hitting!  We play reverse on a women's height net and draw a 10' line that the guys have to use like an indoor attack line (guys have to jump from behind the attack line to hit the ball) also, only the women can block.  This is really a lot of fun for everyone!

EVERYONE

All our tourneys will be USAV sanctioned again this year, as will be all the WCVC doubles tourneys starting on May 19th, so you'll need to be a USAV member. If you played indoors this year, you're good to go.

If you aren't a member, there are 2 options - USAV has a 1 day event membership and a summer membership.
- The 1 day event  membership is $5 and will cover you for a single tourney
- The summer membership is $15 and will cover you for the whole summer season

You can sign up for either type of membership HERE and get that out of the way. Forward your membership confirmation to me so we can get things squared away as quickly as possible on tourney day.

Check in will start at 8:30 on tourney day and play will begin shortly after 9:00.  Check in when you get to the site!  Just make sure that one of the staffers know you're at the park, then you can go set up or do whatever you need to do.  Please don't be late but if you are, no worries.  We've got an exciting new offer for those people who just can't seem to make it on time, this'll be fun!

Pool play should be finished by 4:00 or so to help plan the rest of your day.

In light of all the stag guys signed up, we may offer a seperate grass pool, just for the fellas.  I know some of you aren't keen on playing that format and that's cool but we'll probably offer it as an option.  We'll make that call later in the week after you've had a chance to round up a female partner for yourselves.

Sounds like we're gonna have great weather on Saturday and I hope you all have a great week!

Vaughn

PS. Please keep all those affected by that senseless tragedy at Va Tech in your thoughts and prayers, I can't imagine what they're going through right now...
