maybe skip the drinks and have the meeting at the coast guard station in norwalk or some other location where they have a big room they teach their captains courses in.

maybe someone from the cg could attend and tell us how things run from their end of the rescue procedure so we know what to expect and how to be best prepared god forbid we ever need to call on their services?

interacting with the cg  as part of a large group could also give us/kiters more visibility.

just a thought.

Hey all,

Its time to get together and discuss everything CTKitesurfing is about... and have a pint, or 8.

Does anyone know of a place that would give us a room? If so, please respond to mikesrosen@yahoo. com.

Preferences;
1. Bar
2. No tables needed - We only need "private space" for about an hour.
3. Friday, or Saturday from 6-7PM  til?

Thanks,
-Rosen

damn mike ,,glad you made it in,  ive been out of the loop latley but this makes me think about the card Island Mike  had made up with the direct lines to several pd and cg people  , one in particular is the head bport marine captain who is cool as shiznit and gave  his personal cell  which i think is on the card  ,  he told me personally to call  ,call ,call even if they are not used but to call so he can be prepared to get to you ,he was dead serious about this and im sure even a complete false alarm that made them head out would be better then them being 5 minutes late like in the last  experience ,get the card in your wallets and cars and use the numbers R

First off. Thanks to my bros being johnny on the spot. Watching and ready to call for support.

So the wind just shut off and I thought I would simply downwind from the flats at the Audabon Society to Shorth beach, then grub a ride back from somone.
When I got into the current of the housatonic, I was hosed!
When I made it across, the wind lulled and I droppped the kite. Now getting pulled out to sea by current and a kite that did not have enough wind to relaunch, I pulled the release, flagged the kite. Wrapped up the lines, rolled up the kite, and started to swim in.
The current was WAY strong, after about an hour of swimming diagnol to the current, I was almost at the point (startford gun club). Unfortunelty, the current picks up as you get closer to the point. Knowing this I swam and paddled may arse off while using a little piece of wingtip as a sail. All for nothing, within 10 minutes I was past the point of no return.
Somebody called for help by then, and I needed it. I could see the last bit of beach at the lighthouse and thought that was the last land I would see until somone got me, or I drifted to LI.
Luckily, the outgoing current stop effecting me as I get further west of the point. One last ten minute kick and one arm paddle and I made it in.

Vic and I got lucky and scored a fun little session at SB late this afternoon.
Looked weak at 3pm when we arrived but rocked on the water until dark. You just
never know. Next 3 days look smoking everywhere waves will be epic on LI and RI.
