Here's a second chain of E-mail. This is some from Mark Durst of
San Diego and Chris Cox from SFR. Again, since it's an e-mail
chain, it makes more sense to read from the bottom up.
-------------------
I like the idea of a qualifyer. I think you have to do at least 2
events to go for the win.
I think we have to charge $75 for the event. Here in SFR we charge
35 per day to run any way.
The free social and lunch should cover the difference. Also, let's
remember that this is a "special" event. Mark, Guy, and myself are
on board with the 75 dollar cost. May as well ignore the prices in
the middle of the country. There lot rental fees are nothing
compared to us on the West Coast.
Like the idea of having one person do the shirts. If you have a
reliable person in mind already let's just go with that person.
We need to come up with a theme for the event and incorporate it
into the shirt and any web page and mag. advertising. Does anyone
have someone in mind to do that kind of work.
Had another idea. Our region is going to "protect" it's local
points by eliminating the out of towners from the local results so
as not to cause to much of a shake up in the points. It is also a
good will gesture to the local entrants to get them to come out.
It would also be nice to come up with some sort of on line
registration for the event.
Just some random ideas.

I wouldn't think the warm up is required. But depending on each
event's situation, it might be worth it. If we're there, and paying
for the lot anyways, why not bring in a few houndred dollars. But
if San Diego's case is not pay for Friday if not driving, then
they're probably better off not doing it.
What is the concept of series scoring? Will it be 2 of 3, or 3 of
3, or 2 of 3 to qualify, but 3 of 3 score. This will effect how
many people we expect to qualify for series podium finishes. Then
we can guestimate how many podium finishes there will be, THEN we
can calculate $$/podium. Guy's current guess is 115, my thought is
that's high. I'd actually expect no more than 50 from each site to
travel, giving 150 podium qualifiers (not podium winners).
I took the liberty of looking up other Divisionals. Granted some
fees go back to '05 and don't included inflation factors, but this
is what I found:
Mi Div series <$60
SW Div series = $60
SE Div series = $60
GASS <$50 (CenDiv+GLDiv)
NEDiv = $60
SOWDiv = $50
RMDiv = $60

Gang---I think Mark put everything in perspective well. I'm
thinking medals for all events, with money for the series at the
last event? The "local flavor" is needed for all events to succeed,
that's why in most regions it counts as two local championships (
to separate the more serious competitors ). As for me-the "warm up
event" doesn't really accomplish anything. Thanks,

Well here are my thoughts.
1. A divisional series is more like a tour than
a local event. It needs to be run as such. This includes
preregistration, preassignment of key worker positions etc.
Including the series as a local event is doable but requires a lot
more work on your end Jayson. Trying to run a divisional as a
series and also doing a local event will require a lot of work on
event registration and scoring. This needs to be well thought out
ahead of time.
2. The cost of the event needs to be in the $75
dollar range. This is cheap for 2 days and lunch. What happens
when a local person only wants to do one day? Things can get
pretty complicated and you are going to waste a lot of brain power
trying to cover all the angles.
3. I think we need to look at the sponsorship
angle and see what will be contributed. Trophies should be given
for each single event since that is what people expect and not
everyone can run all 3 events. I think a cash prize for the top 3-
5 in each class (depending on participation) plus a nice Kuhmo
jacket for the winner and maybe a plaque by another sponsor for
people who completed all 3 events is good reward. Maybe with better
sponsorship we can return some more money to each region. This
would be good for doing future divisionals.
4. Scheduling needs to be planned around
possible tours/pros as this will conflict with the hard core
people. Anyone know when the tentative schedule is due out? Is a
test n tune really important? This does take extra work and
manpower.
5. Advertising is important to get the word
out. Local websites are good but we need to reach a broader market
(Seattle, Las Vegas, Phoenix etc).
6. Rick Brown (LA) can do a series shirt.
Let's keep discussing things and try to work in a direction that
is good for all 3 regions. We have to discuss this at the next
San Diego board meeting to get some input and an okay to proceed.
Mike Contour has been added to the list as he is next year's board
president in San Diego. We won't be able to get a firm date till
early January.
