This week we will have Greg Bettencourt, president of Central Coast
Concerned Mountain Bikers, coming to speak at our meeting. There have
not been many Wheelmen in the past, but if any of you are interested in
learning how to preserve our trails, helping out, or being clued in on
the community, you can bring 10 dollars to the meeting and become a
member of CCCMB. The money CCCMB uses goes entirely towards bettering
trails in our community and it was the CCCMB that spearhead most
projects in SLO.
We can credit CCCMB with opening Poly Canyon and Montana de Oro,
creating Morning Glory and Barranca and King Trail, as well as adopting
and maintaining most of the trails in the area. Any money for
membership or donations will only end up benefiting you down the line.
For more info, come to the meeting or visit cccmb.org
I'm looking to get a head count of all of you that are going to come out and work with Leland and I. The plan is to meet at my house (253 Craig Way) at 8am! I will be taking three people out to Osos, and I hope that there are so many people that we need another car also.
Remember you do not need breakfast, cause they are feeding us! Cool hu? You get fed, possible can win some stuff, and get to work on your local trails. Then, you can go watch the Super bowl thing with your favorite beverage in hand, or go ride, like I will be doing.
So, if you are planning on going to Trail Werkz at MDO and hanging out with Tarver and Leland, email me!!
The WheelWomen are ordering sweatpants very soon. Some
guys have expressed interest in buying them. I think they will be
between $15-$20. Black. But the style will depend on how many guys
are interested. I attached the design. Please let Kelley Colditz know if you're
interested, colditzk@....
Who is willing to have people stay at their house for this weekend, in san diego, for the races...If you could include your contact info, as well as address / directions to your house that would also be awesome! Sorry about the late notice on this...in the future it will be done sooner. Also, anyone live in or around LA for next weekend, the races are in lancaster and pearblossom. Thanks again,

Remember to let me know if your racing, and not attending the meeting this week for signups. I have recieved an email from the race director, and some fields may fill up, so if you dont let me know ur racing, try to reg day of the event, there is a possibilty you will not race. So beware! Also, last year, some of our C's did not get to race because of this so keep that in mind....Hope to see you all at the meeting on wed, Alex Scott, Road Coordinator, 805 440 7716

As Will already said, if you ARE NOT going to be able to make it too the meeting this wed, AND plan to race this weekend it is VERY important you email me to let me know of your intentions. Also, those that are willing to put up some housing for there wheelmen buddies, please let me know, as it is greatly appreciated. Hopefully we will have LOTS of people going this weekend, and I hope to see most if not all of you at the meeting this week so we can discuss the race, course, tactics, schedule, etc....

If you're going to miss the meeting and think you are going to the race in San
Diego you can send an e-mail to:
aescott@...
You need to include the races you're planning on doing and the category you want
to race [A, B, C].
You do not need to send an e-mail to Alex AND pre reg at the meeting. Please do
one or the other, preferably pre reg at the meeting.
Hello out there!
Believe it or not, the kick-off the 2007 WCCC road season is in less
than a week! I hope to see as many of you out at Boulevard as possible
next Saturday. The weather out there was absolutely terrific this
weekend, and this year's fields are shaping up to be bigger and better
than ever.
First, I would like to remind all collegiate teams that the deadline
for pre-reg is Thursday, February 1st. If you are coming from rather
far distances (especially NorCal schools), I would highly advise you
pre-reg your team members, especially those racing in the Men's C
field. Last year the field filled up rather quickly, and we had some
very bummed riders who traveled many hours only to be turned away. Do
not let this happen to you! Once reg is full, I have no power over
letting in more riders, no matter how sad your situation may be. All I
can do is empathize and feel sorry for you. So please, pre-reg!
Second, I want to reiterate some ground rules and terms of etiquette,
which I desperately hope are already obvious. First, no camping out on
the course or by the reg area will be allowed. No exceptions. There
are many residents who live near the staging area and will not
tolerate folks camping near their front yards. Second, please be
conscientious of all your trash, and make sure you throw it away.
Third, and I hope a no-brainer, if you have to use the restroom, plese
use an actual restroom. There will be plenty around, so please do not
make nature (or people's yards) your toilet. In a nutshell, we want
this race to last for many years, so please treat the area and its
inhabitants with respect!
Now that we've covered all the essential business, make sure to send
in all that pre-reg info and get ready for a stellar weekend of
racing! See you all on the 3rd!

We have a slightly modified SBS schedule this year.
If you are interested in getting fed and participating in the raffle this year you should arrive between 8:30 and 8:45. In an effort to get working earlier (as many of you know getting started is the most difficult part of the day) we are feeding folks and raffling well before 9:00. We'll start breaking into crews and leaving at 9:00.
So here is the schedule:
8:30 - Bagels, House of Bread goodies, juice, hot coffee, Sign-in
8:45 - Raffle
9:00 - Safety talk and Intros
9:10 - Break into crews and head out
Lots of work to do on most of the trails. Hope to see you there.
I will be leaving friday at 9am. I have an uncle that said he's happy
to put up a couple people. I'm doing both races and not sure if I'm
leaving after the crit or watching the superbowl with my uncle. any
ways I got room in the car for one person and one bike. if any one
needs a ride.
Ben
Judging by todays turn out for the RR, and the fact that it has been raining all day, and probably tommorow, the crit is canceled....sorry and be ready for Real racing next week.
Well, rain sucks. Looks like we won't be able to do the mountain ride tomorrow (sunday) since it's been raining today and probably will continue tonight/tomorrow.
A few people were hesitant as to where the crit is this weekend that everyone with a road bike should go to:
1. Show up at the Rec Center at 6:50am. I will leave at 7 am sharp from the Rec Centerto lead people down there.
2. Go straight to the Crit at either 7:15am or 8am:
Google Maps
In addition, I am going to run a basic skills clinic with help from our experienced riders. This will be at 1pm at the
Sports Complex, adjacent to the baseball fields. From highland and Via Carta, head NW on Via Carta towards the horse unit, and turn left on the road that runs between the parking lots. We will start with trackstanding, so if you have trouble finding it look for a bunch of road bikers going really really slow.
SKILLS ARE VERY IMPORTANT! The fittest people in the conference would be ruined if they did not have any skills. This clinic will help you avoid crashes with bike handling and group practice, and teach you how to recover from bad situations and save yourself if you crash.
For those of you going to the crit - we will ride to Avila to cool down from the Crit, and have time for lunch before the skills clinic.
Attention all intending on racing for the Wheelmen this year, we have a VERY important weekend. We are going to be doing a practice road race on our old course, out in creston. We are going to drive there, as it is kind of far, and the plan is to meet at the slack st parking lot at 8 am SHARP on sat morning. This does not mean come late, not wheelmen standard time. Show up on time, ready to leave, as we are leaving by 815 am to go out to the course with or without you. Sorry if this seems harsh, but we need to keep to a schedule. As far as who should come, well everyone should. Mens C's, Womens B's will do one lap, and Womens A's, and Mens A's will do 2 laps. Mens B's can do 1 or 2 , although i recommend 2. These lap numbers can change, and its only practice if you want to pull out. Also, bring cold weather clothes, some food, water, and some money for lunch at the store in creston for after the race, or if you are like a select few on this team, sace ur money and go to in and out on the way home. Sundays plan is the same, and for those that have not come to a practice crit, you NEED to.....we race in a week. Even if you are not in shape, try the beginnner crit, and then the advanced for as long as you can. There, all done....sorry about these long ones. If you have any q's PLEASE call me or email me.
Conclusion: Practice Road Race (CRESTON): Saturday: meet 8am slack st SHARP, leave by 815 Practice Prado Crit (the last one): Sunday: 715 beg, 8 am advanced Who should come out: All those with a road bike, even remotely interested in racing, or who want to ride a little fast
Whats up everyone,
For those of you not at the meeting, there will be an XC ride leaving the rec
center on friday at 9am with Jesse. Also, this weekend, there will be a DH ride
going out on Sunday at 10am, leaving from slack st. Paul Marshall will be
leading that ride. If you have a vehicle and can help drive ppl, that would
help out. Tear it up!

We need a house that has room for college students to crash over a
three day weekend in February. This house should also come with a
mountain biker that is very familiar with local trails for all skill
levels, and lives in an area condusive to riding.
We have options of three houses already, but two are quite a drive. If
you have a house you'd be willing to host, please let us know. College
kids supply groceries, bikes, and bags, you provide floors, trails, and
a guide.
BIG NEWS! The Super Bowl Sunday workday is just around the corner. All
you mountain riders, mark your calendars and make it out to MDO on
Super Bowl Sunday, February 4th. In addition to Wheelmen incentives,
CCCMB is also giving out free stuff and food.
They will be working on the basic maintenance on all trails to keep the
park from turning into a sand pit. If you haven't ridden trails out
there, there is no better way to find out where they are than to come
out and work a simple sunday morning, and bring bikes to take a spin
afterwards.
Feel free to use the alias to find carpooling if you need to -
Please sign up for the bike valet, and work a shift or two. In case you
were uninformed, its a free bike parking service downtown at farmers to
promote cycling in the community. Its one way the Wheelmen can give
back after we get all the benefits of a town this receptive to cycling.
It's a really great way to know more people in the community who are
cyclists, and a lot of them are Poly grads that can hook you up with
sweet bikes, hot dates, or lucrative internships. It's easy, its fun,
and the instructions are easy to follow:
Want to ride a bike in EAST ASIA!? I DO!!!! and you should too.... you'll get a 5 week Spring Break, 2 months on a boat, and only miss one road race! think about it.....quickly! Thanks, Kelley Colditz

Subject: Cal Poly at Sea - Application deadline extended To:
Hello Again,
I wanted to ask your help. The deadline has been extended until the end of this week and we need some more students or we will not be able to offer all the classes listed. We don't have enough students to justify four Cal Poly faculty.
Please beg a friend to come along with you and have them sign up. Send them to the website http://cpatsea.calpoly.edu/ . There they can find the itinerary, list of courses, costs, and how to apply.
Best, Ritchie

So, we have some good news. Everything is set up and ready to roll for the Thule Racks order. The deal is that we have to fill a 1000.00 dollar minimum for our first order. After that we will be able to place smaller orders periodically.
With that said, I would like to have everyone ready with their orders on WEDNESDAY. As of now you will not need money up front, your payment will be needed when your items are picked up. Remember that the price sheet I sent you is not the final price, you still have to add tax and 10% for shipping.
To find out what you will need please consult the website. Do not ask me, cause I will not know what is going to work for your 1995 Ford Focus hatchback!!!!
Aslo, another note. If you have a vehicle that you want to carry bikes on, but you do not want to carry them on the roof because it kills your mpg, consider getting a hitch for your car. If you would like to get a hitch, call Mike at American Muffler (544-1776). Tell him your situation and that you are a Wheelmen and you just may have a hitch on your car before you know it. Ps. if your muffler is broken he can fix that too.
ok, recap... Wednesday, at the meeting, tell me your order (no maybes, this is final) I will put it in, and in a few weeks you will have racks.
Last thing... Your timely payment is important, for every 5 business days that you have not paid your bill there will be a 5% fee. We are dealing with a business, paying your bill in a timely manner is both important and respectful.
