I don`t know how many of you guys know about the race I'm doin right now, but I
figured I`d keep you all updated on the events each day. I'm doing the Tour de
l'Abitibi which is a big stage race in Quebec, Canada for 17-18 men. There are
27 teams of 6 riders competing including a lot of national teams. It's kind of
a big deal. I`m racing on the Arizona Select team which is just a composite
team put together for this race of riders from all over the West Coast.
Unfortunately, we were off to a terrible start. One of our riders was here on a
training ride Wednesday and was hit by a car. He f'ed up his face real bad and
had to be rushed to hospital in a different city with better facilities and is
not able to race. It was too late to get a replacement, so we`re racing a guy
down with 5 riders.
Today was the prologue, a 400m sprint down the main street downtown. We went 2
at a time, 1 minute apart. Our team was last since we have 5 riders and we were
paired up against the Ukraine National Team. It was pouring rain, but not too
windy. I came off the ramp a little slow and quickly put it in my 52x14. I was
spinning that out really quick at the line, but got smoked by a few bike lengths
by the guy next to me. Everyone else on my team beat their part, so i thought I
sucked.
It turns out I was matched up against the fast guy from Ukraine because I was
fastest on my team and 41st overall at +2 seconds behind the leader. Not bad
out of 160+ riders. I'm looking forward to the RR tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get
some KOM points or something. I`ll keep y'all posted.
