Sounds like a great way to spend your b-day, Brent.
That reminds me, there is a historical ride of sorts in Larned. I
will upload a flyer for it in a bit.
The ride will be part of the Santa Fe Trail Days celebration. The
ride will start with the group riding as part of the parade in the
morning and then go out of town by a couple of historical sites in
Larned. THe total distance is 30 miles. I think it will be an
enjoyable ride, part paved part dirt roads I believe. I will be
working that day covering that and many other events.
For those infamiliar with Larned, it is an interesting community
with a rich history that they do a good job promoting. There are
great period displays and refurbed early american buildings at the
Santa Fe Trail Center.
West of that is the Fort Larned National Historic site. It is one of
two National historic parks in Kansas, and a beautifully restored
fort. There will be re-enactments staged throughout the weekend.
Larned is also a main historic point in the Zebulon Pike Expedition.
THere are numerous historic markers and such around the town.
There will be a car show downtown. Gunfight re-enactments,
magicians, street performances, cookouts, and shopping. A nice
little town worth a weekend visit during their annual festival.
I will upload a flyer for the ride and the Santa Fe Trail Days
Celebrations shortly. I will also see what if any camping
arrangements are close by.
The events are May 26 through 29.

Paula would you post this on the bikekansas site for me?
