I went out and did a sweet loop on the Hawes/Mine Loop. It is next to the
Salt River, and McDowell mountain, (Red Rock Mountain to some), north of
Mesa. The view was spectacular. The entire 7 mile or so loop, (I got lost
ended up with about 10), was fun. Some fast sections, lots of crushed rock
surfaces to make the corners a bit slippery. The section I got lost on was a
tourcerous climb I didn't need to make. The spocky downhill was reward
enough for the punishment of the climb though. I'm on call this weekend so
naturally just as I got to the really technical downhills and rocky
switchbacks my phone rang. I had to hustle out, but still had a blast on the
technical rocks. Think I might go back tomorrow, only supposed to be 101
then.
Sounds like you are beating up the trails back home. Everytime I ride out
here I find myself saying, "Man Cameron would rock on this stuff". Hope you
make it out next winter.
Oh, one more thing before I go. This guy I met out here that rides the
waterfall is kind of a local celebrity. He can clear anything on National
Trail of South Mountain Park. He is the guy that has the horn hot glued to
his helmet. He is Phillipino or something like that. Everybody just calls
him "horny". I found out yesterday his real name is Moan. Now there is a
custom tag for you, "Horny Moan"!
