Me again
I thought I post this little tidbit and se what everyone thinks of the idea.
I know it will not mean much to those in the other leagues as it is a OHL
story.
but none the less give us all you 2 cents worth
Selection process goes high-tech
The Ontario Hockey League Board of Governors today ratified a
recommendation which would see the Annual OHL Priority Selection Process be
conducted by way of the Internet.
As a result of the tremendous growth of the League and the importance of
continuing to conduct the Priority Selection Process in a positive
atmosphere and environment for OHL me member teams and prospective OHL
players, the Governors ratified a recommendation of the League's
Competitions Committee to adjust the ways and means by which the Priority
Selection Process is conducted effective for the 2001 OHL Priority
Selection.
In conducting the Priority Selection through the Internet, specific
arrangements will be made for the media to be integrated into the process to
ensure that the tremendous media coverage of the OHL Priority Selection will
be maintained and in fact enhanced as the result of the adjustments.
In addition, prospective players, their families and the general public will
as well be able to follow the proceedings through the Internet.
In making the announcement, Commissioner David Branch stated that, "The
League is excited about conducting the annual Priority Selection process
utilizing the technological advances of the 21st Century while maintaing
direct contact with the media and more importantly the prospective players
and their families on this most important day".
"In addition, our member teams will now be in a much improved environment
when they are deliberating on those players they will be selecting to join
their team and the Ontario Hockey League."
The OHL Priority Selection Process dates back to the late 1960's when the
"draft" was held under the auspices of the Ontario Hockey Association.
Through the years, the Priority Selection found a home base in Toronto at
the North York Centennial Arena from 1981 to 1990, after which time it
alternated through OHL member team centers including Kitchener, London,
Belleville, Barrie, Brampton and Mississauga.
