ALARM, ALARM, THE CAVALIER CHALLENGE APPROACHES!

All good ladies and gentlemen must know that time is running out for preparation.
Horses are being washed repeatedly to remove the winter dust, and tack is being oiled
for the contest.  Costumes are being cleaned and pressed, and practices are being staged.
Sweetmeats are being acquired, and other forms of bribery are being prepared to attempt
to sway the Doge.  In short, all things are as they should be.......Performance butterflys are
starting early, and the best anyone can ask for is to get them to fly in formation.
Best of luck to all, and I hope this is the best equestrian event ever.....

I hope you all had fun at the Cavalier Challenge.  I talked to the site owner, and she may be open to us holding a few practices there.  I don't have any details, but we could meet with with UH riders about once a month.  They do have lesson horses, which aren't cheap, but maybe we can offer some barn work in trade for a discounted price.  And we may need to pay a small trailer in fee for those with private horses.

Who would be interested in attending?  How much would you be willing to pay for a lesson horse, or to trailer in your own horse?  What days/times work best for you?

Also, UH has been talking of holding an equestrian camping event late this summer.  Who would be up for that?  Would you be interested in overnighting, or just day tripping?  Would you need to rent a stall, or do you have a portable one?  Would you require a rental horse?  What equestrian classes would you like to see or teach?  Would you attend even if you didn't have a horse?

I don't know the plan, but usually these camping trips start on Friday evening with a trail ride and then a pot luck around the campfire.  Sat morning (depending on the heat level) there are classes, lunch, some games, dinner and another trail ride that night.

This is still in the planning stages, but if there is enough interest it may happen.

Respond to me or the group if you are interested in either.

YIS,
Mary Katherine

Sounds like fun. I would be interested, especially as I hope to get back
into the SCA this year. But, I have been busy with rehearsals (in two
Shakespeare productions this summer -- was only planning on one), and now I
may be going back to school (at CSU) if I can get the finances worked out.
As it is, I've been hard pressed to find time for riding lately! And, of
course, I can't do long trips just now because of my old sick dog. Perhaps
once I get moved the living situation will be better for finding a
petsitter, but we'll see how she's doing, if she's still with me by then.
:-/ Besides that, the main prohibiting factor for me would be money for
rental horses for practice or events. If I have time, I am more than
willing to work for some/ all of the rental fees.
cheers,
Bryndis

Unser Hafen is trying to get equestrian at Glory War (7/4-7/8).  That's not to far away.  It's just north of the Colorado border in Wyoming.  I'm sure many of you have been to this war before.  There's lots else to do.  It would be a nice place to showcase equestrian games.

Do these dates work for anyone?  What kinds of facilities would you need?  What about classes?  I wouldn't mind teaching how to make a lance or simple barding.  I can be there for the weekend.

There have been other attmepts to have horses at Glory but the site is not condusive to having them there.  The footing is very bad and there are prarie dog holes everywhere it is flat enough to do anything.

Just some input form someone who has been there and tried it.

The current Glory site does allow horses, but they are looking at other sites as well.  I think they are just trying to find the interest level so they can act soon.

Thanks for sharing your experience.  I don't remember seeing any equestrian facilities last time I was there.  Hopefully they can find a nice equestrian site close by.

Will you both be riding again?  We should have had you both pose for pictures while mounted!

I'm still trying to see if I can find a ride for my horse.  But, I'll be there regardless.

This Saturday is Unser Hafen Equestrain Champions. We would like to
see everyone attend who participated at Cavalier Challenge. We are
going to have a lot of fun. We have five obstacles: Rings, Heads,
boffer javelin, "pig" sticking, and cup pick up & carry. All
authorization levels are welcome and encouraged to participate.
Prizes include gold, silver and jewels. We will do a procession, with
one horse at a time circling the arena with introductions being given
at that time.

You may haul in your horses as early as 8:00 a.m., with practice time
set aside until 10:00 a.m. Tournament begins at 10:00 a.m. and will
be completely finished by noon. Trailer parking will be on the West
and East sides of the barn. Troll will be at the main barn. The site
fee for riders is $15, with no site fee for spectators and guests.
Lunch is being provided by Unser Hafen Equestrian Guild.

We do need a few volunteers for ground crew.

If you have any questions, please contact me at either
nest_verch_gryffry@... or 303-775-1871.

I'm very sorry I won't be able to make this--I'll be out of town.

But I hope everyone there has a great time.

Please note all equestrian minded ladies and gentlemen

This saturday morning we are honored by invitation to attend the event by our friends from the north.  As our Baron and Baroness will be in attendance, anyone who can bring a mount and ride from the Barony Of Caergalen would be encouraged to do so.  Remember that they supported the Equestrian Challenge, and it may be a while before we can stage another event, as the logistics can be daunting.  If ponies and transport are in short supply, just bring your lovely selves, as there is no site fee for the equestrian part in the morning, and the trip is a quick one up I-25.  Anything horse related should be supported by all equestrian minded souls in the SCA.  After all, there are damned few of us, and only fools fight in a burning building.
If it is the will of the mighty Allah, Lady Anne and  the noble Zallinger will be in attendance with Lady Caroline also riding.  Any support would be appreciated.

Calling All Equestrians of Caer Galen,

Do you hear the battle cry?  It is time once again to band together and show your support!

In preparation for this weekend's event, we will be holding an unofficial practice and group meeting this Thursday evening, May 31st, at the Boulder County Fairgrounds public arena.  NW corner of Nelson and Hoover in Longmont, approx 6PM.

Let us support each other, our neighbors, and the equestrian arts!  Even if you are not an active rider, please come out and show your interest.  Horses are encouraged, but not required.  Bring your ideals for future events and practices.

We are on our way to having a solid equestrian program, but we still need everyone's help.  During Cavalier Challenge I learned there are many horses, riders and able bodies in our barony willing and able to help each other.  Now it's time to put our ideals into motion and really show what equestrians can do!

In Service to The Horse,
Mary Katherine and Lady Morgan
