Ok, so I was at Kingdom A&S today, and someone asked me if
we have horse barding in the Caer Galen colors. Apperantly,
Dragonsspine's Warlord event this summer will feature a
mounted processional for all the landed hats, and they were
wondering if we had anything to help add to the pagentry.
I remember we had a set of barding for the Gonfaloniere once
upon a time, but I didn't keep up with what happened to it.
I also recall that it was a bit too small to fit Rosie, so I
don't know that it would work for us either (apperantly
they've got quarterhorses for us to ride in on)
Anyone have any more info?

OK for anyone who hasen't gussed by now, I can neither spell or type.
As Freya pointed out I renamed my horse Tire Dancer.... That Should
have been Fire Dancer....
Today was a very productive day. I am sure we will have working set of
equipment soon. Thanks Everybody.
A couple of you folks have given a bit of background info. I enjoy
that, so I guess I should post mine.
I was raised on a small ranch south of Boulder. I can't remember
learning to ride. Got my first horse and saddle when I was 10, I
still ride the saddle. Started training other peoples horses when I
was about 14 I have ridden and shown everything, western, hunt
seat, saddle seat and dressage. I grew up working with Van Vleet
Arabian Stud, but became hooked on Saddlebreds.
I currently own only one horse. He is a 16 yr old salldeberd named
Kid because he won't grow up.... Real name is Supream Tire Dancer.
The barn where I keep Kid is a wonderful place. 80 acres of pasture,
next to Rock Creek open space. Many of the owners there have been
boarding together for 15+ years.
My real name is Morgan Lee Stott - many of the horse people know me
by Lee because as a kid I got teased about having a horses name...
Thanks to everyone for the interest in our re-born guild. I am very
excited about the comming season.
Morgan
Welcome. Glad to have you. We will need all sorts of help. I might be able
to set you up with a horse when we meet at my rance, and Joder has school
horses for a modest cost.
Where are you located?
Morgan
Hello All,
Thought I would send an introduction for those who may not have met me yet.
I am Bryndis, and the past year and a half have not been playing much SCA
at all do to mundane reasons. Mostly I have done heavy fighting, but while
in al-Barran I was also doing some equestrian stuff with Dubhaesa. I would
like to get involved with equestrian happenings up here, but it is hard
because I do not have a horse and money is limited (we were fortunate that
while at our original practice site in al-Barran Sir Jochan let us use some
of his horses for free -- we just had to trailer them about 2 miles to the
site). But, I can also help out with the equipment and such, so am not
completely useless without a horse ^_^ When I have the time and extra
money, I have been taking lessons from a local trainer I found who I really
like. Other than that, haven't done anything with horses since moving to
Caer Galen.
So, that's me. Hope to be seeing you at a practice soon,
Bryndis

Great to hear from you. Your open trail rides sound great. The Ladies at my
"barn" have compleated all of the colorado trail. My horse did most of
it....Not me, my old bones don't do horse camping anymore.
Whisper is stunning!
I am Lady Geguu in Caerthe (near Watkins / Aurora area.) I now have a mundane career that keeps me working weekends Feb.-Oct., so only get a chance to "come play" in the off season months. Am lucky to make my "day job" part of my passion - I do about 200 birthday parties a year, with our Welsh ponies (even have a mini bovine in training for saddle rides.)
I enjoy light level participation in SCA games - have been out of circulation for a long time, and getting back in. So, am not a heavy competitor. :-) Most of my riding these last 10 years has been montain trails - mundanely I ride weekdays with friends and also host open invite trail rides (a list I founded in 1999 - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ColoradoRider/ ) Although those that I host are mostly on weekdays, there are other riders who host on weekends. Anyone's welcome, if you'd like to give your SCA mounts some fun "off duty" riding. ;-) (The ride rules are just basic trail etiquette, rides are no cost.)
For a couple of years, many years ago, I hosted Caerthe's (then) brief eques. guild's mounted practices and meetings. After so long without a guild, it's good to see Caerthe again taking up equestrian sports again! Also congrats to Caer Galen for embarking in the eques. field! Combining practices can only benefit both branches. :-)
I was working with a Haflinger "Mack" last year - who shaped up nicely for trails, after a couple of months at our trainer's ... but ... not as quiet as I wanted for SCA games. I am a rider of modest skills - so a quiet, well behaving mount is something I value above all else. :-) That's not a bad thing, for a light level SCA rider. ;-)
I now have two well behaved ex-ranch horses, Travis came him in Feb. and Whisper came home just last week. Been riding trails well with 'em - testing 'em out for SCA games as well. We'll see if they have it in 'em, for SCA. :-)
I am Lady Anne Von Hiester and am a certified equestrian marshal.
Requirements to become an equestrian marshal include first being certified
to compete at the canter. This usually happens after competing at the walk
or trot and then testing at the canter. Once this requirement is met, you
can apply to two certified equestrian marshals to test for your certificate.
It is strongly recommended that before doing this, you have spent some time
competing and assisting at events, since one very important responsibility
of marshalling is to insure safety of both competitors and horses, as well
as those watching events. If you have more questions, I will be at Joder
tomorrow at 10, and will be happy to answer what I can.
yours in service
Lady Anne

Good to know! If there are any updates to the rules please let us know. The latest equestrian handbook I found was from 2003.
Thanks so much! Mary K

It looks like we are meeting Saturday morning to visit Lady Anne and see her equipment. We will need to carpool in as there is very little parking. So, lets plan to meet at Joder's at around 9:30 then go from there. I RSVP might be nice so we jave some idea how many bodies to expect.

Hello,
I would like to introduce myself: I am Lady Savina la Brune. I live in Caer Galen and am primarily known as a fiber geek. What few people know about me, however, is that I rode for years and competed back East. I started out riding hunt seat and jumping, did a little drill team and vaulting, then switched to saddle seat - that's where I did most of my showing. I've ridden Western a couple of times - it's not my favorite, but as long as there's a horse under me, I'll take whatever tack I get. :-)
I haven't ridden in over ten years, and I'm quite out of shape, so
I'm probably going to embarrass myself, but so be it! I'm *really* excited about the prospect of getting to ride again. Who knows? Maybe down the road a few years I'll be able to buy a horse and do it right.
Anyway, that's me. Unfortunately I can't join you this weekend as I am going to Kingdom A&S. I look forward to meeting more of you soon!

Sounds great! Thanks so much for the trailering offer!!!!
Hey, how long should the practices last? I was thinking if we want to start at 10, maybe we should all arrive at 9:30 for unloading of horses, and setting up the props. What do you think of a 10-12 practice and then see how it goes?

Morgan,
Can you give me a quick overview of what the SCA insurance covers? I'd like to let Joder know.
What time on Saturday would we like to practice? I was thinking of something around 10AM. That'll give people the rest of the day off, or to trail ride, etc. I can ask to use the arena every other week if we think we want to rotate between Joder and Broomfield.
I'd like to keep the first few practices to just those with
their own horses, at least until we get a routine down. Once we're comfortable we can spend time with those who'd like to rent a horse. I also don't want to overwhelm Joder right away with too many of their horses doing these crazy games. I'm sure we can have everyone who's interested come out and watch anytime, as long as they're horse aware. Let's ask them to leave the dogs at home and watch their kids like a hawk. I don't mean to sound nervous, but I just don't want to give Joder any reason to cancel our practices. If this continues to grow, maybe we can even offer to do a volunteer day this summer.
Joder also has a lounge and classroom area. I will ask if we can use the classroom on the weekends when it's bad weather, etc. This may be on a first come basis, unless we know in advance we'll be needing it.
I will get together a list of Joder's rules soon. I will also
get copies of the liability waivers.
Let me know if anyone has questions. I can't wait to get this going!

Welcome everybody
As you may have gotten from the last post, we are now an official
guild. At the meeting last night we decided that Sat mornings would
work best for most of us. I will be sending in the insurance request. I
will be asking for every saturday through the end of the year. We don't
need to meet that often, but we will be covered when we do.
This comming saturday we are looking at trying to meet with Lady Anne
to find out more about what equipment we need and how to build it. More
info on that later.
We have a great group of people and I am looking forward to a very
rewarding season.
Morgan
This is just an announcement that practices have been approved at
Joder Arabian Ranch in Boulder.
I asked for the jumping arena (in the lower pasture) to be used once a
month. I just need to give them the days and times.
Negative coggins, and liability waivers are required. The $10 trailer
in fee is waived as long as I am there. We can also go trail riding
before or after practices if we like.
School horses are available for a donation ($20 I think), and they
must be reserved in advance.
Now we just need to work on a time that works for all of us!
