BCHA Fun Show SCA Demo and some ideas for "clinic" practices for nex   Message List

Unser Hafen & Caer Galen equestrians -

Next up is the BCHA Fun Show demo on October 19.  I think we should focus on correographing our demo at our next official practice in August (August 17th 10 a.m. - Noon at Mountain View Stables), and then if not all the riders can attend that practice we'll make sure everyone that is going to participate in the demo can get together before October either at a regular practice or elsewhere (even if its an off-horse meeting).

We need to have either the Caer Galen or the Unser Hafen equestrian guild request the insurance for the demo.  Tegan is checking to see if they require to be named as an additional insured or not (thus whether the insurance is $50 or $100).  I was thinking that maybe it would also make sense to split the cost of the insurance?  Do you think Caer Galen would be amenable to that?  We haven't proposed anything to Unser Hafen yet, but I can attend the next Officer's meeting to bring it up.

We tossed around a few ideas for the demo, such as having riders enter in order of the time frame of their persona, having the narrator describe the garb and barding, and then have that person demonstrate one of the activities (e.g. spear throwing, hitting a couple of saracen heads, or pig sticking, or tilting at the rings) - the one that they are best at or fits their persona the best, etc.  Also, we will want to keep one rider per horse most likely, and not switch horses.  We can have the non-riding persons help with set up, pass out flyers, and announce the information.  If anyone needs help with garb or barding in advance, we could also plan a get together to work on it.

Other ideas for the demo are welcome and appreciated!  If anyone has seen anything that looked cool, let us know.  If two riders wanted to pair up and do something together, that might be cool too, as long as we can pull it off. The demo itself will be pretty short, so we need to be well organized.  Please let us know now if you are planning on participating, so when we have our practice on August 17th we can start to plan accordingly.

Another idea that has popped up is for next year trying to set up some half day "clinic" style practices out at Sun Pony Ranch where we can focus on a particular skill such as some of the new SCA equestrian activities - Mounted crest combat or the breakaway jousting or mounted archery, perhaps have a 2-hour riding session, then break for lunch then have a non-mounted class on some particular historical topic.  We could even pick a day to work on roman drills and the like.  This is something where the riders would need to pay a fee, which if there are enough of us we could keep minimal.  Also Sun Pony, as always is willing to allow us to ride their horses for an additional rental payment.  Are any of you interested in these kind of clinics?  We could set them up well in advance and try to hit days that most people can make it.  Let us know so we can start working now on it. And also tell us what topics would be of most interest.

YIS,
