Subject: Medieval Equestrian Championship - SCA
This fall, BCHA has invited the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) to
conduct an equestrian demonstration at our Fun Show. The SCA is a
not-for-profit educational organization devoted to the study of the arts and
skills of pre-seventeenth century Western Culture. Their Equestrian Guild
is devoted to recreating many of the exercises and games used to hone
medieval mounted warriors' skills.
You can get a sneak preview of this amazing -- nay, downright incredible --
event for an entire day, or an afternoon, this summer. Unser Hafen, a
local SCA Barony, is holding their Equestrian Guild Championships at Sun
Pony Ranch in Berthoud on Sunday August 3rd. The event is open to the
public for a $6 fee for non-member adults and free to BCHA and SCA members
(please bring your membership card).
Events will include:
Tilting at the Rings with lances
Spear throwing & spear sticking
"Heads" - hitting obstacles with wooden swords
Quintain (practice jousting)
The equestrian competition will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. The Archery
Championship will be held in the morning, from 10:00 am to noon. Bring your
blankets or folding chairs, hats and sun screen and sit on the hillside to
watch the action!
When: Sunday, August 3, 2008. 1-3 pm Equestrians; 10-Noon Archery
Cost: Free to BCHA Members. $6 to Non-BCHA or SCA member adults. 17 and
under free.
